‘Nicholas, I—’

The pressure of his lips against hers cut off her words. But it was a surprisingly tender kiss and it instantly made all her reservations start to crash down around her. Before she could help herself, she was kissing him back with equal tenderness and then suddenly the kiss changed from gently provocative to hungrily possessive.

She wanted him so much, had missed him so much. She lifted her hand up to stroke against his face. She loved the taut feel of his skin, the slightly rough bristle of his jaw line, the silky softness of his thick dark hair.

‘You are so beautiful.’ He breathed the words against her ear as his hands moved under her T-shirt to caress the warm silk of her naked skin. ‘I’ve missed this …’ His lips trailed down over her neck, his hands stroking over the firm curve of her breast, his fingers finding the hard aching peaks of her nipples.

‘Missed me—don’t you mean?’ Even through the delirium of need that he stirred up inside her, she was aware that the sentence wasn’t enough. She pulled back and looked up at him questioningly.

A man could drown in those sensual green eyes, he thought hazily. ‘Missed you like crazy,’ he murmured softly.

She smiled at him then. ‘Well, that’s OK, then.’

‘Yes, I think it is.’ Pulling the T-shirt up over her head, he tossed it on the floor.

He smiled and then, before she realized his intention, he lifted her up over his shoulder and carried her through towards her bedroom.

It was the first time she had made love with him in her own bed and it seemed strange somehow, seeing him surrounded by the familiarity of her own things. The scatter cushions on her bed were well and truly scattered; the old teddy bear that was of sentimental value because it had been a last Christmas gift from her mother was similarly dispatched.

She arched her back against the cool sheets and invited his touch, his lips, his body.

‘I don’t know what you do to me.’ He growled the words as he ripped off his jacket and started to unbutton his shirt.

She smiled at the words. Yes, Nicholas held control of her but she had a certain power over him as well. The knowledge was delicious; it made her feel as if everything was going to be OK, that the untamed seducer could be won over.

They were foolish thoughts but when they were together like this she allowed them full rein.

Naked, he joined her in the deep comfort of the double bed. He kissed her all over, luxuriating in the warmth of her responses. Because it was five days since he had made love to her, his pleasure seemed heightened and he had difficulty holding back. Every sinuous movement of her hips brought him closer to climax. It took all his self-control to tease her a little—torment her with his tongue, make her gasp his name.

Only when she begged him for release did he allow himself to let go. But even then, after taking her and pleasuring her and feeling the thrill of completion, when he pulled her close he wanted her all over again.

He could feel her heart beating against his chest as if she had been running a race, could smell the fresh scent of shampoo in her hair as he nuzzled against the silky blonde tresses.

‘That was incredible,’ he breathed softly against her ear and kissed the side of her face. She smiled a sleepy happy smile.

‘Tell me about Switzerland,’ she murmured, cuddling closer.

‘Switzerland? Why do you want to know about that?’

‘I’m just interested in how your days have been filled since I saw you last.’

There was something ingenuous about the statement and he felt a wash of shame that he had lied to her about staying away so long. ‘There is not much to tell. It was just business.’ He stared up at the ceiling and wondered what the hell was the matter with him.

‘There must be something to tell. Was it snowing? Were the women very beautiful?’

‘No, it wasn’t snowing. The women, well … He shrugged. ‘I didn’t have much time to look at the women, to be honest.’

She closed her eyes. All week she had been imagining him with incredibly sophisticated and gorgeous women, having dinner with them—making love to them. It had almost driven her out of her mind. She hated herself for being foolish enough to care.

But she did care. She cared about everything where he was concerned. ‘Well, if there’s not much to tell about Switzerland—tell me about Crete,’ she invited softly.

‘You know what Crete is like—you’ve been there.’ She certainly had been there, he reminded himself staunchly. Between them, the McKenzie clan had pulled quite a scam.

‘No, I mean what is it like where you live? What is your house like?’

‘Why do you want to know about that?’ His eyes held a certain coolness that struck at her.

‘I was just curious, but it doesn’t matter.’ She pulled away from him.
