“Call me tomorrow, and I’ll give you an answer. Fuck all that other stuff, tell me about the nigga who’s trying to marry my daughter,” Kelvin said with a smile.

Instead of going to the hotel, they ended up staying at the house with Kelvin due to the four extra bedrooms he had. He told Murder before they all went to bed that he would gladly come back to Virginia with them to get shit out in the open.

Chapter Thirteen

Pain was avoiding everyone right now. He was pissed that Connie had pulled his card like she did in a nice way. Everything she said was the truth. Then there was Nikki and all her shit. He actually stood outside the room she slept in with his gun drawn and contemplated killing her. Pain felt like he was stuck with her for life. She wasn’t going to let him just take the baby and raise him if the child was not his. If the kid turned out to be his then she would purposely make his life a living hell.

“How did shit get this fucked up?” he asked himself.

Pain was now lying on his bed looking at the ceiling. He knew he couldn’t kill Nikki even if he couldn’t stand the sight of her right now. He had to find ways to stop himself from going crazy and killing her ass. When he heard a knock on the door, he rolled his eyes and blew out an exasperated sigh.

“Why you knocking on my door?” he asked.

“Because I’m your damn daddy, and I don’t want to just walk up in your room and see you massaging your Jim Joe Willy. Open this damn door,” his father, George, said.

Pain hopped up to open the door for his father. “What you doing here?” he asked.

“Well, hello to your rude ass too. I came here to see if the police were here with yellow tape around the house. I see you got that girl here. You know that’s not a good idea, right?” George asked his son.

“Pop, I can’t have her go home and try to do something to herself and lose the baby,” Pain explained.

“If she wants to do something to that baby or herself, being in your house ain’t gonna change it. Did she tell you that she was going to try something like that?” he asked.

“No, but I don’t put it past her,” he answered.

“Then why you don’t think she’ll try to kill your dumb ass? My granddaddy used to tell us, if a woman’s mind is made up, the last thing you’re gonna do is force her to change it. You need to get her out of your house before something unexplainable happens to you,” George said.

“She ain’t gonna do shit to me,” Pain replied.

“All those dead men on that show, Snapped, thought the same damn thing. I’m telling you something ain’t right with her. Why she can’t go stay with her people?” he asked. Pain was quiet. “You didn’t even check to see if she could go stay with her folks, did you?” George asked even though he knew the answer. “Boy, I swear I need to stop talking to you. You make my pressure go up,” George told him.

“Pop, how can I just pawn her off on her people like that?” Pain asked.

“She doesn’t belong to you. You have no ties to her until you find out if that baby is yours. If I have to

speak at your funeral, I’m gonna lay your ass out right in the church. The good Lord will know I’m telling the truth. I just came by to see you and make sure you’re okay. I’m leaving to go to Bingo and get one of the ladies to help me play. You need to get that girl out of this house,” George said as he turned to walk out of the bedroom.

“Pop, you know how to play Bingo already,” Pain said.

“You and I know that, but the lady with the big ole titties don’t. Get out of my business and take out the trash around here,” he told Pain before making his way to the front door.

Pain heard the door shut. Until his dad mentioned it, he had never thought about Nikki doing anything to him. Now that he had said something, Pain had a funny feeling in the pit of his stomach. He walked out of his room just in time to see Nikki’s room door closing. He kept walking to see the nurse gathering up her things.

“What’s going on? Where are you going?” he asked her.

“I’m just going to put this stuff in my car. I saw Ms. Nikki in the hallway, and she told me I could go for the rest of the night,” the nurse answered.

“In the hallway? What was she doing in the hallway?” he asked.

“When I saw her, it looked like she was about to come in your room. Did she not come in there? She was standing next to the door,” the nurse said.

“Nah, she must’ve changed her mind. Lock up when you leave out. I’m gonna go check on her then I’m gonna crash out for the rest of the night. Be safe out there,” Pain told her. He walked to Nikki’s door and stood there until he heard the front door close, then he turned the knob and walked into the room. “So, you’re standing outside my door now, listening to conversations and shit,” Pain asked.

Nikki looked up at him with tears in her eyes. Pain would’ve been concerned about why she was crying a few weeks ago, but not right now. He only saw her as a conniving, sneaky bitch looking for sympathy.

“Why does everybody think I’m some evil person?” she asked him.

Pain laughed in her face. He couldn’t believe she was asking that question. When she kept looking at him for an answer, he decided to avoid the question altogether.
