He shook his head. The sunglasses flew off, smashing into the wall almost as if they had been launched there.

The bag rustled.

“Here. Have another pair.”

Fuck the sunglasses.

When he sensed the object flying toward him, Adam reached out to bat it away—and that’s when he finally caught sight of his hand. Only… only that couldn’t be his hand. It couldn’t—

The scratch on his cheek.

The slice on his gum.

The point of Julian’s claw slicing his forearm to get to the blood that had the power to turn a human into a goddamn Nightwalker.

Anguish welled up in him. He stared at his finger, at the terrible black claw that was where his human fingernail used to be. A monstrous claw, for the monster that he’d been turned into.

From across the room, Shea let out a sudden gasp, as if it could be possible she was hurting as much as he was. She slumped into Wolfe’s side. He immediately wrapped his arms around her shoulders, taking her weight when it became clear that she was too weak to stand on her own.

Wolfe’s eyes paled, going from their regular dark blue to an icy shade that once upon a time would’ve made Adam shiver. When he looked into the Para’s shifter’s eyes, it was like staring right at the wolf.

He hunched his body, covering his mate while keeping his predatory gaze locked on Adam.

“Tone it down, Wright. She blew her shields out trying to save your life.”

Ignoring the warning in Wolfe’s gruff tone and the threat in his gaze, Adam looked at Shea imploringly. He hated that he was hurting her, hated that she was experiencing his emotions as he was forced to accept what Wolfe was telling him… but, most of all, he hated what he’d become.

She saved his life?

“Why,” he asked, his voice cracking as his throat begged for a drink he’d never, ever willingly swallow. “Why didn’t you just let me die?”

Author’s Note

Thank you for reading Season of the Witch!

In case it wasn’t super obvious by the end there, Adam Wright is going to be the hero of the next book. Sunglasses at Night is scheduled to be released on June 19th, and if you keep turning the pages (or, well, clicking them), you’ll get a glimpse at the cover, the blurb, and a link to pre-order it if you’d like.

Also, I just want to put it out there that there are two more short stories that go along with this book:

In No Way, we see how Colton and Shea meet, leading up to that fateful moment when Shea realizes that the handsome delivery man might be more than he appeared to be.

In Of Mistletoe and Mating, we return to Maddox and Evangeline. It was a Christmas short I wrote in December, and it shows what happens between the mated pair after her attack during their Christmas stay in the cabin on pack land. There are a couple of important details that pop up in that book that will play a big role in book three, so I would recommend reading that, too.

As of right now, I have three more books planned for this series, including Adam’s. If you enjoyed reading about Colton and Shea—if you’re interested in returning to this Para-filled world again—I would love it if you could leave a review, letting others know what you thought!

xoxo,

Jessica
