The image of Dex’s face, his flirty little grin, filled her head. She imagined it was his mouth working her, his fingers moving in and out of her aching body, sending her higher and higher. His tongue slick and hot over her pulsing flesh.

Her back arched. She gave a keening cry and let herself ride the wave as she gripped the blankets to anchor herself to earth. Stars exploded behind her closed eyes, the orgasm taking on the heat of a supernova.

Finally, her breathing slowed. Her heart rate evened out and Zoe opened her eyes. There, hovering over the masked hunk’s avatar was a word bubble.

“Was it good for you?”

She laughed and looked at her keyboard helplessly. How did one assure a cartoon that the cyber sex had rocked?

“Just type.” The next word bubble instructed.

So she typed. “It was great for me. How about you?”

“Almost perfect.”

“Almost?”

“It’d be better if you were really here.”

Her thighs, still damp with her own juices, quivered. She brushed her index finger over her throbbing nub and groaned. Just the suggestion of a repeat performance in real life was almost enough to make her come again.

His word bubble appeared again. “Want to try it in real life?”

Oh, yes. Zoe wiped her fingers on the abandoned towel and typed in, “When?”

“Tomorrow night.”

“Where?”

“A special room.”

“Why special?”

“Because if we do this, you’re going to agree to a couple of conditions.”

“What conditions?”

“The room is dark or you wear a blindfold. In exchange for you promising not to violate my secret identity, I’ll provide as many orgasms as you want.”

Zoe couldn’t help it. She burst out laughing.

“How long do we have?”

“Twelve hours.”

“What if I said two dozen?”

“Twenty-four orgasms, in exchange for your promise.”

She snickered. “Did you want me to sign a contract?”

“Your word is all I need.”

Zoe hesitated. Then, because she had to ask, she typed, “Are you Gandalf?”

She stared, unwilling to blink as she waited for the reply.

Her eyes started to water.

Finally, “No.”

Zoe’s shoulders slumped. Well…that solved the moral issues of having sex with a guy she was chasing for a job. But it didn’t help her help Zach.

“Why?” asked his word bubble.

If the man was going to give her twenty-four orgasms, she supposed she could ’fess up to her mission.

“That’s why I’m here at the reunion  ,” she typed. “I need to find him.”

“Why?”

Zoe frowned, then tugged the blanket over her naked body. Suddenly she felt as though she was being interrogated. And that her cyber lover had a lot more information than he was sharing.

“I have a business deal for him. Do you know who he is?”

Silence. Zoe puffed out a breath and wondered where she’d taken a wrong turn. Only five minutes ago she’d been floating on a glorious sexual cloud. Now she felt naked and off-center.

Had she blown it all? Starting to feel pissy, she wondered if she cared.

“Maybe we should just forget this,” she typed, her fingers stabbing at the keys.

“I’ll be at your room tomorrow evening at eight to escort you.”

And just like that, he was gone. Not only the word bubbles, but his avatar. Zoe blinked, and with a frown, closed her laptop rather than look at her lonely naked cartoon self.

ZOE SAT ON THE rickety wood floor of the tree house, her arms wrapped around her knees as she contemplated her ugly boots.

When did life become all about compromise? If she wanted to help her brother, she had to trip her way down memory lane. To find peace of mind without freezing her ass off, she had to give up her gorgeous boots for ugly footwear. To have incredible sex, she had to practically sign an anonymity clause. So much for bucking all the rules and doing things her way.

To top it all off, yesterday’s conversation with Dex still whirled through her mind. Was Meghan right? Was she running before she gave Dex a chance?

A rustling in the weeds below warned her that she wasn’t alone any longer.

Curious, she looked through the opening in the floor.

“Hey,” she greeted reluctantly when she saw Dex’s face peering up at her. Had her thoughts drawn him to her? Or just luck? She hated that her shoulders tensed at the sight of his gorgeous eyes. “Look, I’m claiming territorial dibs here.”

“Terms?”

“No games.” She welcomed his company, but she wasn’t up for another round of flirtation yo-yo.

“Deal.”

She heard him step onto the first of the board stairs leading up the tree and grinned when he swore. Yeah, that’s the board that’d ripped her jeans.
