I spread my legs, and he knelt between them. If I could feel Buck inside me every day for the rest of my life, I’d die the happiest woman who ever lived.

Buck

An hour later, I was on my way to the kitchen to make coffee when my phone vibrated with a call from Decker.

“I’ve got news,” he said when I answered.

“What’s that?”

“Stella is about to get a visitor, one I’m sure you’ll want to meet too.”

“What’s going on, Decker?”

“I have it on good authority that Burns Butler will be arriving at the Roaring Fork Ranch in under an hour.”

“Are you serious?” I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. Worse, I sounded like one.

Fortunately, Decker laughed. “Yeah, I’m serious. Rip is picking him up at the airfield. Give me a call when he arrives, and I’ll patch in remotely.”

“I’m surprised you’re not on your way here too.”

“Evidently, Burns didn’t think my presence was necessary. I’ll show him.”

I couldn’t help but laugh after Decker ended the call. He’d sounded as much like a kid over Burns’ visit as I did.

“What’s going on?” Stella asked, coming out of the bedroom freshly showered.

“We have a distinguished visitor arriving this morning.”

Her eyes were wide. “Who?”

“Burns Butler.”

“Get the fuck out,” she gasped. “Is Decker coming with him?”

“Negative, but he did ask me to let him know when Burns arrived so he could video conference himself in.”

I took Stella’s hand away from her mouth and brought it to mine when I noticed her biting her nails. There’s nothing to be nervous about,” I murmured, kissing each fingertip.

“Are you saying you aren’t nervous?”

“He isn’t coming here to see me.”

“Who’s he coming here to see?”

“You.”

Forty-five minutes after Stella smacked me for teasing her, Rip called to say he was about to pull through the main gate.

“Why do you think he’s here?” asked Stella, who had been antsy since I told her about Burns’ visit.

“He must have found something on Operation Argead.”

When I saw the SUV pull up, I opened the cabin door and went out to wait on the porch with Stella. I’d heard so many stories about the man getting out of the vehicle, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Burns raised his hand in greeting. “Ms. Hunter and Mr. Wheaton, I presume?”
