“Sorry to be less than romantic, but I still have to go with coffee.”

After coffee, sex, and a shower, I called the Key Bank location where the trust was held. As I could’ve predicted, they reported there were no safe-deposit boxes in either my aunt’s name or in the name of the trust. I was getting ready to call other nearby branches when Buck walked in and handed me his phone.

“I knew it!” I said, zooming in on the business card that, according to Ink, had been taped under the tenth and eleventh keys from the left. “Oh, no.”

“What?” Buck asked.

“This branch is in Manhattan.”

“I’ll call Crash…err…Smith and ask him to file a flight plan as soon as possible. In the meantime, is there anything from here you want to take back to the ranch with you?”

“Um…I guess I could pack a few more clothes.”

“Not necessary on my account. I’d vote for no clothes as often as possible.”

“I really have everything I need there.”

“And if we need more, we can always arrange another shopping trip.”

“Shopping trip or a fashion show?”

“The second is a given.”

I put my arms around Buck’s neck. “Thank you for keeping me distracted.”

“Is that a good thing?”

“Definitely.”

His cell buzzed, and I saw it was a call from Smith.

“The earliest I could get was ten,” I heard him say. I checked the time on my own phone. We should still be fine since we finally knew where the safe-deposit box was. At least, I hoped that’s what finding the card in the piano meant. I walked a few feet from where Buck was still talking to the pilot and called the number on the business card.

It took me a few minutes and several transfers to reach the right person. “Please send a copy of the will, the trust documents, and the death certificate to me. Once I’ve reviewed them and confirmed everything is in order, I can approve access to the vault.”

“We’re flying to New York from DC in about an hour. How long will it take you to verify what I send?”

“A week to ten days.”

“I need this to happen much sooner. I’m here from Colorado and—”

“The best I can do is sometime tomorrow.”

“What about with a warrant?” Buck asked from behind me. “How soon can you make it happen, then?”

I held the phone away from my ear so he could hear the gentleman’s response. “Depending on when I receive it, I may be able to arrange access for this afternoon.”

“We’ll be there no later than one o’clock.”

“Sir, I—”

Buck hit the button to end the call. “Contact Jinx. Tell him you need a warrant in the next hour.”

“What if he can’t get it?”

“He’ll get it.”

Jinx said he’d do his best and would meet us at the airfield.
