“I don’t own jeans.”

I almost laughed, but stopped myself by biting my tongue so hard I drew blood.

“Hey, you two,” Decker called out from the hallway. “Rock says the coast is clear. He’s headed in to see if he can find the safe-deposit key.”

I motioned with my head for Stella, whose cheeks were flaming bright red, to follow me back out to where he waited.

“We’ll head over to the Invincibles’ apartment as soon as you’re ready,” Decker said to Stella.

She pointed to her bag. “I’m ready.”

I walked over and closed the draperies I’d pulled open earlier. Decker checked the fridge that I wasn’t surprised to see was completely empty.

I’d never seen the woman eat much of anything. My guess was she didn’t weigh in at more than a buck and a quarter and that was on a frame that had to be five feet seven. Her dark hair wasn’t quite shoulder length, and the way she kept it styled back, away from her face, highlighted her dark, almond-shaped eyes.

She was older than me by about six years, but my face looked more weathered. Hell, I had wrinkles from spending too much time in the sun by the time I hit my early twenties.

Stella had a tight little body with narrow shoulders and a waist I bet I could wrap my hands around, and boobs big enough that they’d fill a C-cup bra.

And that ass? Damn, I couldn’t wait to see how it filled out a pair of Cinch jeans.

When we arrived at the Invincibles’ apartment, Rock wasn’t there yet.

It was a nice place with a view of the Capitol building—especially beautiful at night. It had three bedrooms, but with Rock, Decker, Stella, and me all staying here, we were one short. I took my bag and set it near the end of the sofa. I put Stella’s carry-on in the master bedroom after checking to see Rock wasn’t staying in there.

Decker pulled out his laptop and sat at the kitchen counter.

“Why don’t you see if you can get some sleep?” I asked Stella, who like earlier, appeared to be staring off into space.

“I’m not tired.”

She looked dead on her feet, not that I’d tell her that. I’m sure I didn’t look much better. I pulled her over to the sofa, sat beside her, and put my arm around her shoulders.

“What are you doing?”

“I need a hug.”

“You’re hugging me.”

“It still counts.”

“There’s something I need to take care of.” Stella wiggled free of me and went in the direction of the bedroom.

I couldn’t help but watch her ass as she scuffled off. As much as I looked forward to seeing it wrapped in a pair of jeans, it looked damn good in the tight knit pants she was wearing. “Hey, Stella,” I called after her.

She looked over her shoulder at me. “Yeah?”

“What do you call the pants you’re wearing?”

“Leggings. Why?”

“I like ’em.”

When I heard the bedroom door click behind her, I pulled out my cell, figuring it was past time for me to check in with Porter.

“Hey, Buck,” he answered.

“Hey, Port. Listen, there’s some stuff I need to talk to you about.” I went down the same hallway Stella had and into one of the other bedrooms.
