He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly as the thought that this may actually be the night that he would have his revenge settled in. Custodio had ordered that Reese be killed for fucking his wife. Now it was time to pay the check.

Carter raised his weapon and moved quickly toward the room, surprised that he didn’t have any men at all there, but that was what Carla had promised him.

“His men scare her, so he comes alone.”

As he moved down the hall, Carter thought about the speech he’d planned on making before he killed Custodio. He kicked opened the door and fired twice, killing Custodio and the woman he was in bed

with. Carter turned on the lights and moved closer to the body, because he needed to be sure that he had in fact killed Custodio.

Now that he was satisfied that he was dead, Carter looked at this watch and got out of there because he told Fantasy that he would meet her at a hotel, and he was very late. “But she’ll be all right.”

Chapter Five

Ramel Quincy sat looking out the window at the parking lot of his new office at Pearson Construction. When Marvin took over the company, he inserted Ramel to protect his interest in the business. Once Ramel got settled in, Marvin brought in a young construction lawyer, Ebony Maddox. After she reviewed the records that Serek kept, she had decided that she needed to bring in an accountant, Dominica Paris. She was set up in the conference room and reported that the records were a mess and she needed bodies to bring order to the chaos. Ramel took that as a sign that they needed new office space.

“Good morning,” Ebony said when she stuck her head in the door.

“What’s up, Ebony?” Ramel said. He thought Ebony was fine and he was interested in fucking her, but that was the case with most, if not all women. He was interested in Serek’s wife, Sataria, she was the cream of the office crop. But it didn’t take him long to realize that she was into Marvin, so he turned his attention elsewhere.

Since he had been working there, Serek’s receptionist, Jennifer had been flirting with him. She looked good too and he was about to go at her when Ebony showed up and the day after that, Dominica began working there and she brought a team of fine-ass women, so Ramel was taking his time, weighing his options, and there were plenty of options to choose from.

Without being asked, Ebony sat down. “How was your weekend?” she asked. Ramel intrigued her. There was a hard edge to him that she found very attractive.

“Good. What about you?”

Ebony smiled. “Me and Dominica went to J.R.'s for the first time Saturday night. The One was there and he tore it up.”

“Never seen The One. He doesn’t do a lot of concerts, but I heard he puts on a good show. You ladies have a good time?”

“Yes, definitely. We had all access VIP passes. Free food and drinks and we got to go backstage, and we met The One.” Ebony laughed. “He kissed Dominica’s hand and told her to call him Earl.”

“So, what’s on the agenda this week?” Ramel asked, not really interested in chit chatting with her this morning. Ebony had gotten comfortable and she liked to talk.

“The biggest thing, of course, is Dominica getting the books in order, you and Serek have meetings with the architects, engineers and subcontractors to review their submitted budgets for the property that Marvin plans to develop, and in case you haven’t realized it yet, I am not your personal assistant,” she said with a smile.

“I know, and if I came off like I thought you were, I’m sorry. It wasn’t my intention.”

“Apology accepted. Are you prepared for the meetings or did you need me to go over some things with you beforehand?” Ebony offered.

“No, while you and Dominica were VIPing it at J.R.'s, I spent some time this weekend getting up to speed on the job requirements and specifications.”

“Really?”

“You seem surprised.”

“I am. I was under the impression that you didn’t know anything about construction.”

“Where’d you get that impression?”

“Serek.”

Ramel laughed. “Well, Serek can believe whatever he likes. I ain’t here for him. I’m here to watch Money’s back and do whatever he needs.”

“So, you do have a construction background?”

“I do.”

Ebony laughed. “I just assumed that you were … you know … muscle.”
