“His office is putting together a task force in cooperation with the NYPD to go after the Caldwell organization and they want me to consider taking point and running the NYPD side of the task force.”

“Congratulations. You’re the perfect one to head up the task force.”

“Thank you.” She paused. “Did I mention that since I’ll have command responsibilities that it comes with a promotion to sergeant?”

“Congratulations,” he said, nodding his head. “You gonna do it?”

“I told him that I would take a couple of days to think about it and let him know.”

“That’s not what I asked you,” he said sternly.

Although he thought it was a great opportunity and one that she deserved, he enjoyed working with her and wasn’t interested in losing her as a partner.

“Are you gonna do it?”

Dawkins stood up. “Yes.”

Chapter Eleven

Hawkins looked out the window of his room at the Ramada on Baychester and wondered if he was doing the right thing. He had been holed up there for days and hadn’t left, not even to eat. If it wasn’t for Grubhub, he’d starve rather than hit the streets.

Hawkins found himself caught in the middle. Not only was The Family looking for him, but AD had been blowing up his phone as well. Despite calling numerous times, he left no message and only sent one text.

We need to talk.

And Hawkins reply was, I’m done.

Hawkins was beyond done fighting a war he wasn’t interested in fighting. “For what? Revenge for Sterling? ’Cause that nigga got pussy whipped? Nigga please.”

That was Barnes’ thing; he and Sterling had history, but not Hawkins. Truth was, he never really liked Sterling, it was always about the money to him. The day AD came to them with an offer for a purer product at a lower price, and he’d done the math and calculated how much more money they’d make, it didn’t matter what they had to do.

But now Barnes was dead, and he was on the run.

“So, you wanna try it again, big man?” Vangee asked from the bed.

“Not tonight. Money’s on the dresser, you can go,” Hawkins said without glancing in her direction, not until Vangee pulled back the covers. Once she got out of bed, Vangee had his undivided attention because before his eyes was a thick delicious goddess, and she was something to behold.

In her bare feet, and yes, she had pretty feet too, Vangee stood five feet, eight inches tall. Her powerful calves led up to her thick defined thighs that met at her swollen mound.

Hawkins exhaled at the sight of her.

Vangee stretched out her toned arms and her amazing sized thirty-eight K breasts and hard nipples, that swelled if you blew on them, stood up and he couldn’t take his eyes off her. He never could, not since the first time he saw her all those years ago.

When she lowered her arms and began to move, her breasts settled comfortably on the round belly he loved resting his head on while he took his time giving each nipple the care it deserved. He loved the feel of her, the touch of her, the sensation of her skin against his.

Her skin was the color of nutmeg with a reddish undertone that made her skin seem to glow when she graced you with her smile, especially when she was in the sun. Her skin loved the sun. Her naturally curly hair framed her beautiful face. That adorably-round face, her full, voluptuous lips that made him want to kiss her.

But it was her eyes. Her sensually-seductive eyes.

Eyes that said, fuck me.

Vangee walked in the bathroom and closed the door.

“Damn, she’s fine,” he said as the door closed.

Hawkins reconsidered for a second or two, but he was too distracted for that anyway. That was the problem the first time, too many things on his mind. Vangee rocked the house a few times, he lost focus and lost it quick.

“Too much on my mind,” he said, shaking his head as he heard the shower come on.
