“Yeah, I know. He just gets on my nerves sometimes.” Wanda held up her hand. “Which is why he does it, I know.”

“Glad I didn’t have to say it,” I mumbled with a mouthful of eggs.

“You got anything to do today?”

“No, why?”

“You should come to meet Crenshaw with me. Start taking an active role in the legit side of our business.”

I sat back and wiped my mouth. “Since I find myself surprisingly free, sure, I’ll go with you.”

“Surprisingly free? What is that supposed to mean?”

“It means I’m on vacation.”

“Okay. What’s that supposed to mean?”

“It means Andre gave me some time off to get my head together,” I said.

Wanda laughed a nervous laugh. “What brought that on?” she paused. “Never mind, I heard you have been on a little killing spree.”

“He said I was bringing too much heat on him, so I need to get out of the city for a while. Go to L.A., Miami, Vegas or someplace like that.”

“So, where you going?”

“I ain’t goin’ no damn where. What the fuck am I gonna do in Vegas that I can’t do right here in the city?”

“Then go to the islands.”

“Naa.”

“Why not? You aren’t afraid to fly, are you?”

“I never been on a plane before.”

“I know, that’s why I’m asking.”

“No, I ain’t scared.”

“Then go to Jamaica or better yet, go to St. Vincent.”

“St. Vincent?”

Wanda laughed. “Maybe you can find your long-lost daddy.”

“Fuck you, Wanda.”

Chapter Nine

Well, I decided to take Wanda’s advice and at the same time, not take Wanda’s advice. So here I am in the islands. But I didn’t go to St Vincent. I was about to exit the plane at Lynden Pindling International Airport in The Bahamas.

And no, I am not afraid of flying; I actually enjoyed the flight and the company. Sitting next to me was a caramel brown skinned beauty named Cortisha Walker. She was a research chemist, who was traveling from Manchester, England to Nassau to visit her parents. Cortisha talked just about the entire flight, but it was cool because she had the sexiest accent.

She promised to ‘pop ’round’ and show me the real Nassau.

I walked through the airport trying to think of the last time I went anywhere without a gun, but couldn’t. As I continued through the airport, I was repeatedly approached by men that wanted to know if I needed some weed, which I would, a gang of it, but I wasn’t about to get it from any of these guys.

When I got outside, I stopped and took a deep breath. I had never breathed clean air before and it was a different experience. But I couldn’t really enjoy it because once again, I was set upon by men. This time they wanted to know if I needed a cab. Wanda had booked me a luxury beachfront suite at The Cove, so I definitely needed one, but all of them seemed too anxious. It was then that I spotted my driver. He was leaning against the last car in line, wearing sunglasses and looking unconcerned by it all. I walked past the other drivers and their cars and leaned against the car next to him.
