“Say no more,” I told her as I put an arm around her and held her close.

In fairness, I never thought it would be as easy as a cup of tea, a sweet kiss, and a romp in the sack. I intended to be there for the long haul, to do whatever it took to get Clara’s mind and heart back in the right place, with me.

We sat beside each other for a long while without saying a word. I would’ve given anything to kiss her sweet lips again, but nothing compared to knowing she still burned for me the same way I did for her. That was enough for me.

“Hey, Dad, how are you?” I asked as I artfully held the phone to my ear. I walked into my new master bedroom with a box labeled ‘master room.’ I placed the box on top of a stack of boxes.

“I’m doing good, just feeling a little tired. I’ll be by the office later today for my weekly review,” Dad said on a yawn.

“Okay, I put all the files on your desk and emailed them to you, as well.”

“Very good, Son. Last week’s statements looked amazing. New business is up twenty percent in the Wyoming office and thirty three percent in the Delaware office. You were definitely on to something with those two offices,” he said with pride.

“Yeah, I felt pretty strong about the potential in those two places. It’s only right that Turner Enterprises has a footing in every state in America. I’m confident Delaware and Wyoming will continue to carry their own weight and eventually show exponential growth,” I said, taking the phone off speaker.

“Well, you don’t have to sell it to me anymore. The proof is in the numbers,” Dad said.

“Dad, I have something personal to ask you.”

“What’s on your mind, Son?”

“When Destiny talked to Ms. Clara this morning, she said you were at her house last night. Is that true?”

“Yes, we were together. Why?”

“I just didn’t know things were getting serious enough for you to spend the night at her house.” I guess in the back of my mind I was holding out some hope that my parents could reconcile.

“If you must know, Clara and I sat and talked about the good times we shared. We laughed and talked until about twelve in the morning. Then, I flew back to Miami and stayed in a hotel. Your mother has been crowding me and I needed some space to think.”

“So you didn’t spend the night with Ms. Clara?”

“No, I stayed at a hotel. Is that okay with you Son, or do I have a curfew?” Dad asked sarcastically.

“You don’t have to report to me. I’m just looking out for our family.”

“Rest assured that no one has looked out for our family more than me. I have the wounds on my heart to prove it. I won’t do anything to damage our family any more than it already is, but I am going to be happy, which brings me to the reason I called. Have you heard from your mother?”

“I haven’t talked to her in a few days, why?”

“When I got home this morning, she wasn’t here and her room had been cleared out. The staff said the movers came by early this morning and packed her up.”

“She didn’t tell me she was moving out. Did she leave a note or anything?” I asked.

“Nothing. My first thought is that she got the condo she’s been talking about. It’s interesting that she didn’t tell you anything or leave word for me.”

“When I last spoke to her, she had come to the conclusion that she would move on. But I don’t like her making moves like this without talking to someone. I don’t want her to feel like she has to be alone, when she has a son who cares about her,” I said, feeling some type of way.

“Even though we’re getting a divorce, I still care about her wellbeing too. That’s why I cal

led.”

“Yeah, I know you do,” I said absentmindedly. “I’ll call around and check on her in just a little while,” I added while studying the various items scattered about my bedroom.
