At the steel in his voice, his dragon sulked and remained silent. Grego
r rarely ordered his dragon around with such force, but he wouldn’t be denied in this.
All too soon they reached the laboratory’s door. Opening it, he found Aaron conferring with Emily and Trahern.
They stopped talking and looked at him. Gregor asked, “What’s going on?”
Aaron answered, “The boy on Glenlough’s condition has worsened and O’Shea wants us to take care of him. Kai and a few others are bringing the boy to Stonefire. Since you two were gone, I was just conveying Bram’s orders.”
Cassidy jumped in. “What’s wrong with the boy?”
“He’s tenuously close to losing control and going rogue. Nothing Glenlough has tried has helped. Once the O’Sheas heard we might have a solution, the boy’s parents volunteered him.”
Gregor frowned. “Wait a second. We still don’t know all of the ill effects. The previous patient was nearly an adult and the boy is only eight years old.”
Trahern replied, “The boy’s parents are still willing to try. It’s the only option left, apart from keeping him continually sedated.”
“Which is no way to live,” Cassidy murmured.
Gregor squeezed her hand in his and looked to Aaron. “When will they arrive?”
“This evening. Bram wants all of you working on this together,” Aaron stated.
So much for spending time with Cassidy later in the evening.
His dragon growled. The child is more important and you know it.
Of course I do, but I wish life was a little less exciting. At least for a few months, anyway.
Cassidy jumped in. “Right, then I want Trahern and Emily to keep working on the moss and its side effects. The more information we have, the better the boy’s chances. Gregor and I will keep an eye on the other patients and get as much work as possible finished before the boy’s arrival.” She moved her gaze to Aaron. “Keep in contact. Not just for the boy, but also in case your mother wakes up. We have no idea what will happen and we might need your decision straight away.”
Aaron nodded. “Of course.”
“Good,” Sid said. “Now, everyone back to work. We don’t have much time and a lot needs to be done.”
His female was bloody fantastic. Some males might resent a female taking charge, but Cassidy knew her clan better than he. Only an idiot would allow their ego to get in the way of brilliance and efficiency.
Everyone murmured their assent before Sid tugged his hand toward the exit. Once in the hall, she sighed. “At one point, things were fairly quiet on Stonefire, if you can believe it.”
“I do, as it was the same on Lochguard. But things will eventually calm down.” He leaned down to her ear and whispered, “My only regret is that I’ll have to wait to hear you scream my name. I don’t think either of us is going to have the energy tonight.”
Cassidy placed a hand on his chest and her touch seared through his shirt. “I’m slowly learning that I need to embrace what time I have and not put things off.” She nuzzled his cheek. “When we have a little down time, you’re mine, dragonman.”
He moved to look into Cassidy’s eyes and was surprised to find her pupils flashing. He only hoped her dragon wasn’t going to make a fuss. “Then that’s an added incentive for me to work as hard as possible.”

Sid’s dragon paced inside her mind and finally said, I want to embrace things. Nine months is too long to wait.
Even though Gregor was staring at her, Sid focused on her beast. There are many things we can try together, if you give me a chance. That way you won’t have to wait.
Her dragon remained silent for a few beats before she replied, Why do you want to share anything with me when I told you I’m taking control of our body and our child after he or she is born.
Because I think you remember our time before, when we were teenagers and worked together. It could be that way again. Her dragon grunted and Sid continued, Think about it. After we save the Irish child, we can try something, if you like.
