“No. Are you still mad?”

She shrugged. “A little.”

“Is there anything I can do to make you less mad?”

“No,” she sighed. “But since you’re here, I’d like your opinion on something.”

“Okay.” If there was anything I could do to smooth things over, I would do it.

“Perfect. Taste this.” She shoved a small bite-sized piece of something sweet and minty into my mouth and Megan let out a small gasp when my tongue grazed her fingertips.

I chewed slowly, my eyes fixed on my wife. She always looked the most beautiful when she was in her element, apron on with ovens warming the whole room, a wide smile on her face. “It’s delicious. What is it?”

She took a step back and put her hands on her hips, a proud but defiant look on her face. “Essie’s Peppermint Surprise. The surprise is coconut.”

I blinked, unsure what to say but feeling strangely touched. “Wow. Okay.”

She lifted her chin a little higher. “I remembered the day Essie gave me the bakery. The words she said to me, the sentimentality in those words. She loved me, Casey and she believed in me.”

“She absolutely did.”

Megan nodded. “I owe it to Essie and to myself to make this place the best I can, Casey. I want to make it the best it can be and I want you too. Can I have both of those things?”

I blinked. My brows dipped low as confusion set in. “You can try to get rid of me if you want to, Megan, but I’m bigger and I’m stronger and more determined than ever to keep you in my life. Forever. I’ll chain you to the bed if it comes to that.”

A tiny shiver shook her body and a smile spread slowly. “I might not object to that.”

The heat in her eyes lit a fire in my veins until it bubbled. “Good to know.” The moment stretched out between us for several long seconds, cranking up the tension to one hundred.

“Don’t freak out, Casey. Just be honest.”

“I’m not freaking out, but I am sorry. I’m sorry as hell that I wasn’t as supportive as I should have been. This is all new and I’m adjusting, admittedly not very well, but I want you to know that I am trying.”

She folded her arms over her chest, showing off even more cleavage in her V-neck tank top. “Are you worried that you’re gonna lose me?”

Her direct question surprised me, but I nodded. “Kind of, yeah. Am I?”

“Good.” She gave one short nod. “It means that you really do love me.”

“Was that ever in doubt?”

“I don’t know, Casey. I’m not the Megan you bargained for. I might look like her and sound like her, but I have a feeling I’m just different enough to make you worry.”

“You are different, but also more of the Megan I fell in love with. It’s almost as if losing your memory helped you recapture parts of you that you lost over the years.”

“You’re not just saying that?”

“I wouldn’t do that. I don’t just want you, Megs. I want us to be happy together. Forever.”

Her smile grew bigger and she took a step closer. “Kiss me, Dr. Jackson.”

“Happily,” I growled and yanked her body flush against mine, one hand low on her back, my thumb grazing the silky flesh at her waistband. Then, my lips were on hers and we kissed like it was the first time in a long damn time. Maybe it was because the kiss felt new. It felt different.

It was a torching hot kiss, but it wasn’t unfamiliar even though I couldn’t remember ever kissing Megan with quite so much fire. We loved each other. Craved each other and lusted after one another, but never like this. It was never this hot, this needy and all-consuming, and I pulled her closer, eager to taste as much of her as I could in that moment.

A low growl sounded from deep inside my wife and I pulled her up into my arms, holding her until she shuddered with a sigh as her legs circled my waist. Her tongue danced with mine and I swung us around and pressed my hips against hers until I heard a low moan that made my cock swell.

A timer sounded, and since Megan was content to ignore it so was I.

Then another timer started, twenty seconds later.

“Well, shit,” she growled and stared down at me with a smile. “Great kiss, Doc.”

I laughed at her words, but that laugh quickly turned to a growl when she slid down the length of my body, so achingly slow I thought I might blow my load like an over eager teenager.

“Megs,” I groaned.

“Just like old times, huh?”

“You remember?”

She nodded and removed the first tray, which contained three oversized cupcakes, and then the other which had smaller, regular sized cupcakes. “It’s been coming back in bits and pieces, but more frequently.”
