A minute or two later her soft footfalls sounded on the stairs, and then she appeared in the kitchen wearing a curious smile and a t-shirt that fell to mid-thigh. “Smells like pizza.”

“Pizza and wings. And salad.”

“Yes, please,” she groaned and dropped her head back. “Please tell me the kid didn’t leave all the cheese on top of the box.” Megan blinked in surprise.

So did I.

“Hey, I remembered that!” Her smile was so damn genuine, I reached for her and pulled her close, kissing her long and slow. So slow that I had to resist the urge to toss her on the counter and have my wicked way with her.

“That’s good, babe. Really good. Plus I tipped him well so he wouldn’t make that mistake again.”

“Damn, I really do love you. You know that?”

“Hell yeah you do. But I love hearing the words from your sweet lips.” I stole another kiss and she gifted me with another smile. “I love you too, Megs.”

“I know you do, because you got me buffalo wing pizza. My favorite.”

“I got some lemonade since you have to limit your caffeine. With or without ice?”

“With, of course.” Megan moved around the kitchen just like she had before the accident, with an easy confidence that said this was her domain. She grabbed two plates, plus a fork for me. “I’ll enjoy my food animal style, as usual.”

“Maybe I’ll eat it your way tonight.”

Her green eyes went wide. “Really?”

“Yeah. Why not?”

She laughed. “Because you always complain about hot sauce staining your fingertips.”

“Well now that you’re home, you can just lick the sauce off for me. Right?”

Megan tilted her head to the side, a soft grin playing on her face. “Aw, honey, you say the sweetest stuff to me.” She burst out laughing and stacked the wings on top of the pizza box, and the plates and napkins on top of that. “Living room?”

“Where else?” I watched her go with a lightness in my heart. She was getting her memory back, slowly but surely. Tonight was the perfect example of our perfectly domestic lives, takeout and television, and laughter. Lots and lots of laughter.

“Um, Case?”

I smiled at her questioning tone. “Yeah, babe?”

“Can you come in here for a second?”

“Sure, just a sec.” I knew exactly what she’d spotted, so I took my time, grabbing two glasses filled with lemonade for her and iced tea for me.

“Casey,” she growled.

I appeared in the living room with furrowed brows. “What’s up?”

“Someone left a ring in our pizza. Do you know anything about that?”

I leaned over and examined the box carefully. “Hmph. Maybe someone wants to marry you. Again.”

“Casey,” she gasped. “What are you saying?”

“Me?” I put a hand to my chest and shrugged. “I haven’t said a thing. Not yet, anyway.”

“Jerk.” She picked up the diamond and emerald band and set it on the coffee table before grabbing a slice of pizza. “I get to pick the movie tonight.”

I laughed at her annoyed expression and took the remote from her hand. “Megan, my sweet wife.”

“Oh, sure. Now you want to butter me up.” Arms folded, she gave me her full attention.

“Megan. We’ve been through so much lately and I think this new life of ours, and the new life we created, warrants a new start. A fresh commitment to our love and our growing family.” I reached for the ring and held it up to her. “Megan Ann-Marie Jackson, will you marry me? Again.”

Megan

“You’re getting married. Again.” Despite Hannah’s tone, there was a mile-wide grin on her face as she shook her head. “I can’t find a guy worth a second date, and you get a second wedding. To the same guy.” She sat back in the booth at Cowboy Café and blew out a long breath as she raised her glass of sweet tea in the air. “To Megan and Casey. Showing us how it’s done. Congrats.”

“Thanks, girls.” I felt the heat of a blush crawl up my cheeks as my friends, my girls, toasted my newfound love with my husband. “And thanks for showing up on such short notice.”

Teddy barked out a laugh. “You said lunch was on you and that was enough for me.” Her wide happy smile said otherwise, but I let her keep her tough girl act in place.

“Well,” Persy said with an impatient wave of her hand, “show us the ring!”

“Right!” Gus put her hands to her cheeks, embarrassed that she wasn’t the one to ask. “Show it off, honey.”

I had my hand in my lap because I wanted to do a fun reveal just as soon as the champagne arrived, which it did. Right on time. I lifted my left hand and wiggled the ring finger.

“Gorgeous, isn’t it?” I’d barely been able to take my eyes off the stunning work of art with the teardrop shaped blue topaz surrounded by little sparkling diamonds.
