Knowing the boys aren’t going to give me long to put something spectacular together, I go for a pair of tight leather pants with a lace up front and quickly grab my black chunky boots to match. After slipping my feet into them, I pull a black cropped halter tank over my head and get busy strapping my holsters around my thigh. Though Knox is only one guy, I can guarantee the boys will go all out.

My feet thud against the stairs as I race back down to meet the boys, and just as the night we went to save their siblings, there are blueprints spread out on the table with all sorts of wraps around it. “How the fuck did you get blueprints of the school?” I question, moving in between Grayson and King.

Cruz’s gaze snaps up from the blueprints and travels over my body, his brow raising as hunger flashes in his eyes. “Fuck, babe. How am I supposed to concentrate when you come to the party looking like that?”

A grin settles over my lips as my eyelids lower. “What’s the matter?” I ask him, bringing my fingers to my collar bone and slowly dragging them down my body, between my breasts and down past my waist. “You’re not telling me that you won’t be able to concentrate, are you? Perhaps you need to sit this one out.”

Cruz’s eyes bug out of his head. “Fuck that,” he snaps. “I’m Cruz Fucking Danforth. I don’t settle for either or, I get everything I want. I’m going to put a bullet through Knox’s skull and when I’m done, I’m going to fuck you in the middle of the goddamn school. How does Principal Torsney’s desk sound?”

My tongue rolls over my lip and before I can get too excited about the idea of getting freaky in a deserted school, Grayson steals the spotlight, deciding that we don’t have time for this bullshit. “We’ve had the blueprints since the moment we enrolled there. We told you this, didn’t we? We needed to know every inch of that school before you arrived. We don’t go into missions unprepared.”

A soft chuckle bubbles up my throat. “Funny,” I mutter. “Because it seems that going into missions unprepared is kinda my thing.”

Carver scoffs. “Yeah, we fucking know.”

I roll my eyes and turn my attention back to the table. Despite my reckless habit of running into things without a single thought, tonight won’t be like that. My gaze shuffles over the blueprints. “Where do you think he’ll be?”

Grayson drops his finger to the papers. “My guess is here,” he says, pointing out the utility room in the gymnasium. “From memory, this room has a lock on it. It’s close to the locker room where he can shower and shit, and the cafeteria is right next door. He can sneak around and get what he needs to survive without having to risk moving through too much of the school.”

King drags his hand down his face. “I don’t know, man. It sounds too easy. That’s where anyone with basic survival skills would go, but Knox ain’t that smart.”

“That’s what I was thinking,” Carver says. “The fucker could be anywhere. I don’t want to fuck ourselves in the asses by going all in and storming the gymnasium, only to give him warning and time to slip away. He’s fucking slippery. The bastard has a gift for escaping.”

“Alright,” Grayson says, propping both hands against the table and looking over the blueprints for the millionth time. “Then here’s what we’re going to do …”

Within the space of three minutes, the guys have gone over the plan, laughed at their own freaking brilliance, hidden all kinds of weapons over all of our bodies, and are now waiting impatiently as the gate at the top of my driveway slowly peels open.

Carver hits the gas, sneaking through the gate as quickly as possible, far too impatient to wait for it to open the whole way. Carver drives way too fast, considering that he’s only going to have to stop again when he reaches the main gate into the estate, and when we do finally reach it, we’re all left in utter silence, staring out the front windshield in confusion.

“What the fuck is that?” I question, peering through the gate at the lumpy heap that’s been dumped on the opposite side of the gate.

Carver creeps just a little bit closer to the gate, letting his headlights shine upon the head. “It’s … I think it’s a person,” Carver says.

“You sure?” King questions. “It looks like someone’s just dropped off a fuck ton of blankets.”

Grayson pushes his door open before looking back at me. “Stay here,” he says, pausing a moment to narrow his gaze. “I mean it. Don’t fucking move. Got it?”

I roll my eyes and cross my arms over my chest, but Grayson doesn’t hang around to watch me huff and groan about his douchiness. We all watch as he walks toward the gate, leaving the car door wide open so that we can hear what’s going on out there.
