Dreading what I’m about to see, I turn and let my eyes fall on the blonde that is fucking torturing me. I bite my lip so hard I almost bring blood when I see her short dress that stops just barely in time.

She’s talking to Karma as they get out of a cab, and her long, tan legs a

re showcased with a sleek golden sheen. Her hair looks alive as she walks, smiling over at Karma who looks oddly happy, considering how paranoid she normally seems.

The dress Kimber is wearing is strapless, silver, and made to fucking slay me.

“Did I mention I’m damn good at buying dresses?” Dice muses as Kimber nears.

“I think you’re trying to make me break something on your body.”

Thad snickers as Kimber and Karma finally reach us, but the blonde wrapped in silver doesn’t acknowledge me. Obviously I fucked up.

“You both look positively… edible,” Dice drawls, eyeing Karma like she’s most definitely on the menu. Again.

I’ll be casting a soundproof spell around them the second we get back.

Thad rolls his eyes, turning toward the door, and Kimber continues ignoring me while joining him at his side.

“We should be on the list,” Thad says. He gives the guy our names while I let my eyes roam all over Kimber’s back.

“Sorry,” the gruff man says. “You’re not on here.”

As one, we all turn our glare on Dice.

“Calm down,” he says, shrugging. “I wanted to show up and surprise Liza. Tell her that Dice is here.”

The guy turns his attention on Dice, narrowing his eyes. He mumbles the message over a sleeve microphone, and then he crosses his arms over his chest, making sure we don’t try to bypass him. Little does he know I could easily veil his mind and make him happy to oblige us.

“Well, well, well,” a feminine voice says from behind the burly man. “This is a lovely surprise.”

He steps aside for her to step into view, and Thad’s eyebrows hit his hairline. I have to admit, even for our world, her beauty is definitely startling.

“She’s out of your league, mate,” Dice tells Thad, slapping him on the back while stepping up and kissing the woman on the cheek.

She tosses her dark hair away from her face and narrows her eyes on Dice. Karma looks uncomfortable now, probably not enjoying the fact Dice and the woman I assume is Liza have history.

“Come on in,” Liza says, motioning inside. “I’m sure my friends are dying to meet you after all these years.”

Karma shoots me a questioning look, and I shrug in response. I’ve never heard Dice mention this woman before. As we all walk in, Dice takes Karma’s hand in his, threading their fingers together, and she seems to relax somewhat. But then I feel it. The stifling power of seduction sinks its teeth in, and I immediately regret wearing a tie.

“You don’t seem too surprised to see us,” Thad says, tugging at his collar the second he feels the heat.

“Of course not. After all, I’m the one who dropped the hints you needed to find me. You’re going after the rings, are you not?” she asks quietly, escaping the ears of most, and the others are too wrapped up in other… things. Damn. The seduction in here is too thick.

“You baited us?” Kimber asks her, surprised, but Dice just smirks.

“Perceptive little one, aren’t you?” Liza mocks, turning her eyes back toward us before opening a door off to the side.

We all go in, and she shuts the door on the loud party just outside. The second the door seals, all sounds disappear.

“Why did you bait us?” I ask, suddenly feeling a little toyed with.

Liza turns her dark smile on us, and she measures Karma, eyeing her with mild curiosity. That starts to put me on alert, until Liza finally speaks.

“Because you have my son on your crusade. And I’d like for him to stay safe.”

Everyone looks to Dice, confused, and he takes a bow as though he just finished a show. “Yes, the amazing Liza Berlow is indeed my mother.”
