He stared at me with that boyish gaze, but the man beneath lingered there hot in the wings. Like the guy was just waiting to be tag-teamed in.

Like he was waiting to pounce.

He did neither. His beast of a friend was basically yelling at me in front of him. Blondie and his other two crew had already parked, convening between two Audis. A third Audi was there too and that let me know the three had probably traveled in a unit.

Beast boy, on the other hand, had obviously showed up late and, apparently, had jokes for me calling me out of my name. I crossed my arms in front of him, the guy still standing next to his hood. I tilted my head. “I don’t see your name on it.”

Dark eyes flared from beneath shaggy hair. He directed a finger toward me. “Use your fucking eyes, little girl.”

Um, no this bitch did not?

I was by no means little. I possibly might be considered shorter compared to his behemoth ass, but not little by any means. At five foot ten, I was lanky as hell, but clearly, this guy was just trying to place me beneath him.

It wouldn’t work, but I did decide to entertain the asshole when I turned around. Funny enough, I did spot a sign. It said “Student of the Month,” and I spotted it the moment Bru came around with our bags. Clearly missing my heated exchange, my brother handed me mine. I wasn’t surprised he missed it, I suppose. Bru had the trunk up when beast boy was yelling at me.

“What’s going on?” Bru asked, now seeing the big guy staring me down across the fool’s ride. Bru’s eyes twitched, going back and forth between me and the large boy, but I waved my brother off. I could handle this.

“What exactly did you do to achieve such an accomplishment?” I asked beast boy, goading him. I leaned back against my car. “Blow your history teacher?”

This set fire off in his eyes, and Bru grabbed me.

“What the fuck are you doing?” my brother gritted, as the beast of a man bounded around his car.

He got up in my face.

“Move your goddamn car,” he growled at me, like an actual beast. It seemed that the wolf on his hood was fitting, and the only reason he didn’t get too close to me was Bru.

My brother jerked me back, trying to keep me out of a clearly brewing fight, and I’d be lying if I said my brother hadn’t done something similar before. He often played the middleman when people started shit with me at our other schools. Bru pushed me back. “Stop it.”

“I’d listen to him, girlie.” Beast sneered and he nearly got a backhand for that one. This guy definitely had a limited vocabulary. Especially when it came to women.

I started to go in for round two with this guy, but at this point, his friend called him back.

Blondie.

He’d called him by the name “Wolf,” and I nearly laughed my ass off. The fact beast boy actually went about town with such a name just about sent me into hysterics. Either he was arrogant enough to go by it, or his parents were assholes.

Maybe a little bit of both.

I kept that last thought to myself, not really wanting to get in a fight on my first day. But mostly for Bru.

Beast boy listened to his friend, falling back and Blondie seemed more consumed with finishing his smoke than getting in the fight himself. He jerked his chin toward Wolf, an obvious gesture of retreat and that definitely told me something about their ranks. Beast boy wasn’t in charge.

Blondie was.

Blondie stared at me through narrowed eyes, so obviously trying to figure me out. He flicked his joint butt, then put it out with his boot before tapping the chest of the other two guys with him. All three boys grabbed their bags off the cars, and in their distraction, my keys were taken from me.

“I’ll move the car,” Bru growled at me, and I did feel bad. I hadn’t meant to embarrass him or anything, but someone needed to stand up for us. We couldn’t go around letting people think they could take advantage of us because we were new or unfamiliar.

Even still, I gave my brother his way, and after shooting me a look that could kill, Wolf got back into his ride. He waited for Bru to clear our Chevelle before peeling into the spot and nearly clipping both cars surrounding his Hummer. After that, Wolf slammed the door, heading over to his three waiting friends.

“Yo, bitch?”

Wolf jerked around, actually answering to what I’d called him. This had his friends in tears. Well, everyone but Blondie.

The big blond guy merely stared on, seemingly fascinated by the exchange. I pointed to him, this guy clearly Wolf’s handler. “Better go back to daddy.”

A feral growl boomed from Wolf’s lips, and he shot in my direction so fast I thought he might get a hold of me. Bru came between us, though, and Blondie, once again, called Wolf away.
