He watched her break down. Always strong and positive, he knew it killed her to let him see her so vulnerable. Now that he knew the truth, it didn’t change anything. He wanted to scoop her up and carry her away from all the sadness and pain. He walked over to where she was standing and pulled her into a hug.

“For the last two years I have dreamt of her. Every night. She keeps running away from me and all I can do is keep chasing, never catching up. I can only assume that when I find what I’m looking for she will stop running and I can finally be at peace.”

“You don’t dream when you’re with me.” She had to have noticed it too.

“I know.”

“Don’t you see? You don’t have to run when you’re with me. Now it all makes sense.”

“This isn’t about you, Rob. I have a dream to pursue, people to help. This is bigger than just me.”

“Not everyone is going to die on you.”

“Everyone dies.”

“Okay, yes. Everyone dies, but that isn’t a reason to run away, avoiding relationships, connections, people who may love you.” He hoped she understood what he was getting at. He loved her.

“Everyone who loves me is gone. I’m alone.”

“You don’t have to be alone. You’ve made friends here. Carrie and Amie love you. I...I love you.”

It couldn’t be a surprise. She had to know he loved her. But she looked at him with a stunned expression, her jaw quivering. If she didn’t believe it, he would simply have to tell her again.

“Did you hear me? I said I fell in love with you.”

She turned her back on him without even acknowledging his confession.

He approached her slowly as to not increase her skittishness. “I’ve been waiting my whole life for you.” He captured her by the arms, pulling her into his body. “I knew it from the first second I saw you, but I pushed it away. I knew it wasn’t something you were looking for, and I didn’t believe it myself.”

“You promised,” she sobbed into his chest. “No strings.”

“I can’t push it away any longer. I don’t want you to leave. Stay here with me and we can build a life together. You don’t have to be alone.” He guided her over to the couch and sat her down. “You can help people here. Maybe you can start your own business, but I can’t let you leave. Not after finally finding you.”

He brought his lips down on hers. She fought him, for a split second, she fought his embrace but he only held on tighter. Finally she gave in, wrapping her arms around his neck. He pulled her across his lap, and then she straddled his body.

“I can’t stay.” She continued to kiss him. “This isn’t a yes.”

He slipped his hands up the back of her shirt and stroked her soft skin. He promised himself he wouldn’t cave. Sleeping with her one more time wasn’t the way to make her st

ay, but she was too hard to resist.

“Don’t let me leave without giving me everything I want.”

He ripped away from her kiss. He was confused. She wanted him to continue with his plan. This was the most intimate part of the plan. It would require her complete trust.

“I heard you say you had another plan. Give it to me. Do it to me. Don’t make me leave always wondering how good it could have been.”

“You…”

“Please, Rob. We don’t have much time left.”

He didn’t want her to leave. He couldn’t stand it. His heart couldn’t take it.

He’d started this journey for her. To give her everything she wanted. He wouldn’t let her down now. It was time to demonstrate his alpha male status.

He grabbed her hips, lifting them both off the couch. He navigated his way around her condo, searching for the bedroom. She kissed and licked his skin, down his neck, on his cheeks. He kicked open the first door in the hallway and was surprised to find a mini spa room.

A massage table sat in the middle of the room. Off to the side various candles and oils sat on a wood table. This was perfect. The massage table. The perfect apparatus to exert his dominance over her.
