Page 35 of Not My Neighbor

Like a calm sea after a thrilling storm, we’re both contents to just float in this afterglow.

A feeling I could never describe, only share and it would be impossible for me to share it with anyone else.

“Better?” I finally ask him, looking up and noticing his look of supreme satisfaction.

Like he’s won the lottery of life, knowing he’s aced every single thing he’s put his mind and his body to.

He growls gently, pulling me closer and covering us both with the bedsheets, which I notice are in total disarray.

I struggle to remember if the bed was even made when we came in, but a part of me knows it was.

Aside from being relieved, he’s not my neighbor at all, I feel a new excitement brewing.

The idea of getting to know Blake all over again, as Blake Mason, not my neighbor.

I think back, smiling over all the misunderstandings of the past couple of days.

A lot of the time it wasn’t what Blake said at all, it was just circumstance and my own belief that made me think he had to be the editor of some magazine.

It’s kind of a relief too because I really struggled with that one. I just can’t see Blake having anything to do with a magazine apart from maybe thumbing it in a waiting room somewhere.

He’s content to just lay back, holding me. Knowing I’m his now, and I think he eventually dozes off for a bit.

Confirming what I suspected all along, that he’d sat up all last night watching over my house as I slept. The only way he could have caught that yard guy so early in the morning.

My thoughts slowly turn to home and my dad as I squeeze myself closer to Blake.

He makes me feel so safe, so warm.

Like nothing could touch us now or ever. Not even my cranky dad once he finds out what’s been going on under his own roof.

But I could safely say we never had sex under his roof. No way.

That special moment was in the Presidential Suite of the most expensive hotel in town, no less.

It isn’t long though before the sound and feel of his sleepy breathing against my body has the same effect on me.

Both of us sliding deeper into each other. The dream we’ll both share from now on in waking life, but for now, lived out together as we sleep in each other’s arms.

Chapter Eighteen

Blake

I sleep and so does Krystal, but I wake up long before she does.

I figure she’ll be out for a while yet if the smile playing on her lips is anything to go by.

I lay with her wrapped around me for hours, just staring at her, tracing her hair back from her face whenever she shifts in her sleep. Content for the first time in my life.

The one thing I’ve ever wanted that actually made me feel complete, whole again.

Everything else is just ‘stuff’. It comes and goes, meaningless because it isn’t what counts.

I only slide out of our bed when a call from nature comes. And I notice the huge tub in the ensuite, begging to be put to use.

Slipping into one of the hotel’s monogrammed robes which I’m surprised actually covers most of me, I call down for room service.

As many red roses as they can muster, and enough food to maybe, just maybe quench my appetite.

It’s been a day of appetites, with only one of mine even partially filled for now.

I need food and I need time.

More time to show Krystal just how special she is and just how amazing our lives will be from now on.

The weight of pretending to be her neighbor has lifted, but I’ll never forget the trouble it caused and vow once again to never tell Krystal anything but the truth, even if it’s not what she might want to hear.

No more secrets between us. Not ever.

Chapter Nineteen

Krystal

Feeling the empty bed next to me sees me waking with a start, almost convinced I might have dreamed the whole thing if it wasn’t for the delicious tenderness I feel between my legs.

A reminder I can’t ignore as I smile. Content as the memory floods my mind again.

Blake’s eyes as he filled me. His expression once we climaxed together. The sensation of his hard body underneath mine.

But where is he?

The sound of a running bath and the scent of roses gives me a hint and mewing a little as I stretch before rolling onto my side, I sense a surprise coming.

The wide lane of fresh rose petals starting at my side of the bed, leading to a steaming and open bathroom door gives me a clue.

Without even trying to hide any of my nakedness, I slide out of bed, trembling with excitement and just a little cold after the warmth of Blake’s huge arms around me for so long.
