Sam teased me with his dick until finally pushing it in. I cried out in relief and reached back to grab his hip and pull him closer.

“Sam,” I said, not really knowing what I wanted to say. More, harder, please, god.

“Y’okay?”

I loved how his Texas drawl showed up only when he was drunk with need.

“Fuck me.”

He leaned his hot, damp chest over my bare skin where my shirt was most likely ruined already with sweaty creases. I didn’t care. Not one bit.

The crisp brush of his chest hair against my back and the scent of his sun-warmed skin excited me. I moved my hand from his hip to his head and grabbed a handful of his thick blond hair before turning my face to brush a kiss against his mouth.

“Want you. Don’t be careful.”

“I’ll always be careful with you.”

His words sucked the breath from my lungs. I murmured his name again and again like a plea.

Maybe he was careful in his own way, or maybe all he’d meant was making sure I was okay while he did it, but Sam cranked up the intensity exactly how I’d asked. He slung his hips against my ass hard and fast until the slapping sound of hot, damp skin filled the room and brought me closer to orgasm.

But it was when he pulled out and leaned back in with his mouth, sliding his finger inside me and working my hole with his tongue, that I finally lost it.

My brain blinked off as every muscle seemed to contract in my body at once. I cried out Sam’s name and scrambled to reach for him with one of my hands. He grabbed it and held it tight as my release rocked through me.

When I started to breathe easier, I felt the warm splat of Sam’s cum on my back and heard the low, sustained grunt of his own orgasm.

As soon as his orgasm finished, he gently moved me onto the bed fully and lay beside me, brushing my hair back and pressing soft kisses on my cheeks, lips, and eyelids.

“You’re so beautiful,” he whispered. “So sexy. I’m so lucky to be here with you like this. When you… when you trusted me, even after Barney told you I had a record… no one has ever had blind faith in me like that before.”

His vulnerability was a gift, and I was grateful to see it. It was easy to think he was the one bringing everything to the table in our relationship, so hearing I was able to touch him in that way was special.

Sam drew a finger down the side of my face. “It was an assault charge. My sister was—”

I cut him off with a hard kiss. “It’s okay. I want to know the story if you want to tell me, but later. Okay? Right now I just want you to hold me like this and maybe tell me again how beautiful I am,” I teased.

This was all too good to be true, but I decided to relish it while I had it. But the longer we locked eyes on each other, the more I thought maybe it wasn’t too good to be true. Maybe it was exactly right.

And maybe it was time I learned to accept that just maybe, I deserved to have someone as kind and loving as Sam Rigby all to myself.

I offered to drive Sam to Rockley Lodge early in the morning so I wouldn’t chicken out before my breakfast confession to Mikey and Pim. I was, indeed, a little too nervous to go it alone, so I also begged Chaya to join us there.

After kissing a sleepy Sam goodbye and sending him off with Tiller to get the snow guns two hours away, I gestured for Mikey to hop in the Subaru with me so we could catch Pim before the breakfast rush.

As soon as we entered the cozy diner, I asked Pim if he could join us long enough for a cup of coffee. Since Solo was working this morning, he happily agreed and got us all settled with coffee in a back booth.

“Um…” I began.

Chaya squeezed my leg. “Spit it out, babe. Mama’s got a day off and cowboys to ride.”

Mikey chuckled, and Pim made an encouraging remark. I finally found my tongue. “I know who hit you with the truck,” I blurted. “Back in December.”

Thankfully, no one else was within hearing distance. I continued talking too fast for anyone to interrupt. “The hit-and-run was meant for me. And it was Gene. Gene Stanner. After you pushed me down, I turned to look and recognized his pickup. Then… then he tried it again on the mountain. It wasn’t an accident. It had to be deliberate. Sam and I were on a motorcycle, and he ran the truck right at us. I realized I can’t… I can’t keep this to myself anymore because what if someone else got hurt like you two were hurt? I couldn’t live with myself. Knowing all this time I kept it to myself and didn’t tell a soul.”
