“Tyler, I don’t know what to say.”

“Say yes, sweetheart. Say you’ll stay. Say you are ours.”

She nodded. A tear slid down her cheek. “Yes.” She kissed him. “Yes. Yes. Yes.”

Thirty-One

Lee

There was only one week left until the three of them returned to Denver. For almost six weeks Brooke had brought the three of them together in an incredible way.

Lee didn’t miss his solitude in the mountains. He didn’t miss chopping wood alone, or hiking on his own. He did all those things now with her. And Tyler had shown a side of him Lee thought had died a long time ago.

She made both of them better men. But with Denver looming in front of them Lee knew it was finally time to figure out a plan when it came to Brooke’s dick of a cousin.

Lee wandered into the TV room. Tyler was watching a basketball game.

He poked Tyler. “Hey, I think we need to talk about Niall.”

“What’s going on?” Tyler asked.

“What are you going to do about McIntosh? We can’t act like we don’t have to deal with it. We need a solid plan.”

“What do you mean? You know where things are with Brooke.”

Lee huffed. “He needs to know he can’t have Brooke back. He can never have her back. I don’t give a shit about how you collect your gambling debts owed to you, but we need to take her out of the equation the minute we are back in Denver.”

“I couldn’t agree with you more.”

“Wait, what?” He was stunned. He looked at his friend. “You aren’t going to argue with me?”

“No way. I’m fucking insane about her. I know you are too. He isn’t getting anywhere near her again.”

Lee sat down and muted the basketball game. “Wow. So, it’s actually happened?”

“What?”

“You’re in love, man.”

Tyler rolled his eyes. “Let’s not make a big fucking deal out of it, ok? Yes, I love her. How could I not? You do.”

Lee laughed. “Yeah, but I’m not the one who keeps my emotions locked in a prison. Mine are a lot more obvious.”

“I’ve been trying to think of a way to talk to McIntosh without tipping my hand. I don’t want her near that family of hers. She doesn’t want to go back. As far as I’m concerned she never has to.”

“Agreed.” Lee rubbed the back of his head. “We should ask her how she wants us to handle it. She’s been through a lot.”

“I want to protect her from all of it.”

“Me too, man. Me too.”

They looked up when they heard a knock on the door. Brooke stood in front of them.

“You’re awake.” Lee smiled. “I saw you fell asleep in the library reading that book.”

“I didn’t know where you guys were. I looked upstairs first.”

“Come here.” He opened his arms and she walked into them. Tyler rose to greet her too. “Everything ok?” he asked her.
