“Yeah, sure of course,” she stammers. “No problem.”

With that, I take off my heavy fireman’s jacket, revealing a wife beater beneath. Her eyes go wide when she sees my muscled chest and strong biceps, but I just grin. She’s seen it all before, and liked it very much too.

“So I have to ask what happened?” I say. “Mind if we take a seat and talk it over? It’s for my report that I’ll file today or tomorrow.”

She nods, immediately repentant before sitting at the kitchen table. I do the same, levering my huge form into a spindly chair.

“I really am so sorry about all of this, Mason,” she says, looking penitent. “It’s such a lame story. I was making macaroni and cheese and one of the noodles got caught in the burner and started to char. It happened before I even realized it, and I couldn’t stop the smoke detector in time.” She covers her eyes with her hands, her cheeks bright red. “Ugh, this is so embarrassing and I’m sorry for wasting your time.”

I merely shake my head. “Hey, hey, it’s not such a big deal. These things happen, right? It’s not your fault.”

She nods, still looking down.

“Yeah, but I cook all the time, so I should have known better.”

Again, I try to cheer her up.

“Well, it could happen to anyone, even a master chef with a professional kitchen. Heck, there are fires in restaurant kitchens all the time. It’s practically a daily occurrence,” I say dryly.

Charity’s gaze snaps up, her eyes wide.

“Really?”

“Yes, definitely. Just last week Chef Chew over at Chef Chew’s almost blew up his venue when he tried to stir-fry some abalone over high heat. It was very nearly a disaster.”

Charity looks puzzled.

“You can stir-fry abalone? And isn’t stir-fry usually done over low heat, not high?”

I grin.

“Exactly, but Chef Chew decided to be inventive. You know he’s known for pushing the envelope, but this time, things got a bit out of hand as he was experimenting. But don’t worry, disaster was averted and honestly, his is hardly the strangest call I’ve responded to even if there was abalone splattered on the walls afterwards,” I tell her.

She giggles then and her bosom shakes, making me jerk in my pants.

“OMG, you must see the weirdest things all the time.”

“I do,” I nod before grinning and standing up. The atmosphere is comfortable between us, and I’m reluctant to leave, but there’s really no excuse to stay anymore. “Well, if you’re all settled, I should head back to the station.” I start walking to the door, but then Charity catches up to me and smiles.

“Well, I’m almost done cooking my macaroni and cheese now, actually. Would you like to stay for a bowl or two? It’s really good, I promise, and besides, I’d like to make it up to you if possible. I know I kind of dragged you away from your real duties to answer a false alarm.” She looks up at me with those gentle eyes and bites her lip. Christ, that plush pout has me stiffening in my thick pants even more.

Quickly, I check my wristwatch. My shift is over in fifteen minutes, so I suppose I could spare a few minutes. Besides, I really am hungry and my stomach growls.

“Sure, why not?” I say. “But I hope you made a lot of pasta because I eat like a starving bear most days.”

“Don’t worry,” Charity laughs. “There should be plenty.”

I toss my coat and fireman’s helmet on the rack by the door, and then step out of my enormous fireproof pants as well. This leaves me in nothing but a wife-beater and station trousers, and again, I catch Charity checking me out. She’s licking her lips until she realizes I’ve caught her, and then looks quickly away while blushing again.

But then, the pretty girl smiles and leads me into the kitchen. “Take a seat while I finish up, okay? It’ll only be a few minutes, I promise, and then the starving bear will be served.”

I laugh and pull out a chair to get comfortable as Charity bustles about the kitchen. Damn, this is the life because Charity serves me a glass of lemonade, and then I’m treated to the absolutely delicious sight of her plump ass swaying in those short shorts as she readies a few things. I lick my lips again, wanting nothing more than to squeeze those cheeks before firmly bending her over the table and thrusting inside.

But what am I thinking? I shake my head, disgusted with myself. This is my ex-girlfriend’s daughter, for crying out loud! Not only that, but Rosanne and I just broke up yesterday, so it’s too soon to be moving on just yet.

But I can’t help myself. I harden as Charity pours a bowl full of cheese into the pot, staring unabashedly at those huge breasts which strain against her silken tank top. I hear the noodles as they coat themselves in the creamy goodness as she stirs. Even the image of the pretty girl licking the spoon makes me moan slightly, and she looks up, eyes bright.
