Chapter Fourteen

Cam looked around the small diner in Goodnight, Colorado. It was nice enough, but it didn’t feel like home. He’d just finished his breakfast, which was only fair. The gravy was instant, unlike back home at Blue’s. It was filling, so he couldn’t complain.

Erica and Dylan were across from him in the booth, still working on their food. Erica’s blue eyes were sparkling this morning. Dylan’s couldn’t be seen, since he was back in his shades, but the ease in his manner told Cam he was happy things had worked out the way they had.

Cam couldn’t help but smile. This was going to be the rest of his life, being with Erica, sharing her with his brother. What more could he ask for? Nothing.

He did want that fucking Russian who’d been responsible for Erica’s abduction behind bars where he belonged. He also wanted the ten million in ransom the Knights had sent to be returned. The issue with Kip Lunceford was still on the back burner. That needed to be resolved. Matt and Sean were weeding out the destructive code Lunceford had gotten into TBK’s network. Other than that, life was perfect.

He reached across the table and grabbed Erica’s hand. She smiled at him. Really perfect.

He heard a buzzing noise and reached for his cell. He came up empty. “Not me.” He would have to remember to look for it once they were back in Destiny. He definitely didn’t want to buy a new cell.

“It’s me,” Dylan said, and pulled out his phone. “This is Strange.”

Erica sipped on her coffee. God, she was so gorgeous. What a night they’d had. This was just the beginning of their life together.

“We will have her there in an hour,” Dylan told the person on the other end of the call, and then he clicked off his cell and tucked it back into his coat.

Erica turned to him with a questioning look on her face.

“We need to get the ticket and get back to Destiny.” Dylan grinned.

“Who was that?” she asked. “Was it one of the Knight brothers?”

“Still the inquisitive one, aren’t you, baby?” Dylan shook his head. “No. It wasn’t. I did get a text from them this morning though. I’m on strict orders to keep you away from the office today. And you don’t want me and Cam to lose our jobs, do you?”

Cam liked the lightness in his brother. It had been years since he’d seen Dylan act this way. Erica was the reason for the change in him.

“Of course not,” she said. “But I have so much to do.”

“TBK can survive without its powerhouse woman for one day,” Dylan said.

“But—”

“No ‘buts,’ baby.” Dylan put his arm around her shoulders and pulled her in tight. “Except your pretty ass.

“Cam, back me up, please.”

“Sorry, sweetheart. I need my job. Besides, I think a little time off for all of us is a very good idea. I cut my leave by half of the time requested. I have some ideas on how the three of us can spend the rest of this vacation, and it starts with your gorgeous butt.” He sent her a wicked wink.

“You two are in a conspiracy. I don’t have a chance.”

“No, you don’t,” Dylan said. “Besides, we have other orders from the biggest brass in Destiny.”

She tilted her head to the side. “Biggest brass?”

“The women. We’re supposed to deliver you to them, pronto.”

Cam chuckled. “We better get going.”

“When we get back to Destiny, I need to make a stop at my house before we drop her off,” Dylan said conspiratorially. “I have something for Erica.”

“What?” she asked.

“You’ll have to wait and see.”
