Ethel stood on the stairs. She was regally dressed as a queen. “Everyone, it’s time to go into the ballroom for Patrick’s tale about his first dragon sighting.”

As the crowd shuffled ahead, Megan took Kimmie’s hand. Her mom took Gary’s.

Jena stood between Friar Tuck and Little John, who she’d first known as Country Boy and Tall Texan.
