“Give me the keys.”

“Do you always have to win?”

“You know me quite well. You tell me.”

“Fine.” She handed him her keys, and he put his arm around her. “You win.”

When they headed up her sidewalk, she heard the lady next door say, “Is everything all right, Phoebe?”

“Yes, Mrs. Handley. Everything is fine.” She giggled. Everything is perfect. “Goodnight.”

“She voted for my opponent, Phoebe. We need to get inside.”

“What? Are you worried she’ll ruin your next election, Sheriff?” He grinned. “You know how the politics can get crazy here. Yes, she can. Let’s go.”

They came up the steps of her front porch. A vase of red roses was at the foot of her door. “These must be from one of your brothers.”

“My money is on Mitchell. He’s the most sensitive of the three of us.”

“Musicians always are.” She bent down to retrieve the vase as Jason put the key in the door. “It might be from Lucas or both of them. You never sent me flowers, Jason. A girl likes getting flowers you know.”

He cupped her ass and led her inside. “I know exactly what this girl likes and you know it.”

“Devil.”

“Vixen,” he said with a laugh. “Well? Which brother are these from?”

She opened the tiny envelope and felt her heart seize. “It’s from him. From the stalker.”

Jason’s body tensed. He took the card from Phoebe’s trembling fingers. Reading the message filled him with protective rage.

You looked beautiful at the wedding today, Phoebe. You have no idea how much you mean to me. Please stay away from the Wolfe brothers. I wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to them.

Love,

Your Secret Admirer.

He held her close. “It’s going to be okay, baby. Trust me.”

“I do, but this is so crazy.”

“You let me handle crazy. You stay put while I check out the house.”

She nodded.

With his gun out, he checked every nook and cranny of her place. The fucker wasn’t here and there was no sign that he’d ever been.

“We’re alone, honey.” He put his arm around her. “Let’s get you in a warm bath. I will take care of everything.”

“Thank you. I don’t know what I would do without you.”

He filled the tub. “I’ll bring you a glass of wine and something to nibble on after I make a few calls.”

She slipped into the water. “Who do you think this guy is, Jason?”

“Honey, it’s too early to say.”
