“If your father wasn’t serving life in prison, I’d hunt him down and make him pay for what he did to you,” Sylas said.

“Thank you, brother. It means so much to me that you feel that way. Ashley, I love you so much. I’ve been a stubborn-ass fool and any other adjectives or slurs you want to fill in that you believe are appropriate.”

When he placed her back on her feet, she looked in his eyes. “No adjectives, Nic. Just three words. I love you.” She glanced at Sylas. “And I love you.” Looking back at Nic, she asked, “Is that okay with you?”

“It’s more than okay with me.” He pressed his mouth to hers, causing butterflies to flutter inside her.

“If your father’s words start playing in your head again, just tell us. We’ll do anything to help you,” Ashley said.

“That’s right. We can plot out all the bad things we want to do to the asshole. That should make you feel better.” Sylas laughed.

She saw Nic smile, and that told her that he had completely turned around. There was no jealousy in his eyes. He understood everything she wanted and was okay with it.

Nic turned to Sylas. “He loves you as much as I do, sweetheart. And we’re brothers. That never changed even when I denied it. I have so much to learn. I hope you can be patient with me.”

“With me, too,” Sylas added, kissing her.

“The three of us together can work through anything,” she said. “I’m just so happy I can hardly stand it. This is the best day of my life. I will remember it forever.”

They each kissed her, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that the intervention had worked its magic.

“We need to toast this,” she said. “I’ve got a bottle of Chardonnay in the refrigerator we can open. And if you’re hungry, there’s leftover Chinese.”

“Both sound good to me,” Sylas said.

“Same here,” Nic chimed in. “Lead the way, baby.”

When they got to the kitchen, she saw the mess she’d made. “I forgot about this. Give me a second to clean it up.”

Nic shook his head. “You sit, sweetheart. Sylas and I can take care of this. Where’s your broom?”

She pointed to the utility closet and sat down.

“I’ll get the wine.” Sylas opened her fridge and retrieved the bottle. “Where’s your opener, honey?”

“I’ll get it.”

“No,” he said firmly.

Nic returned and started sweeping up the grounds.

“Am I supposed to sit here like a princess?”

“Yes,” they said in unison.

She smiled. “The opener is in that drawer. The glasses are in that upper cabinet to the left of the sink. This is so much fun, watching you two, but I have to admit I’m not use to being waited on.”

Nic emptied the grounds into her trashcan. “You better start getting used to it because that is what we intend to do from here on.”

“Well, do I ever get a turn?”

Sylas placed a glass of wine in front of her. “Only if you’re sneaky enough, sweetheart.”

She smiled. “So that’s how it’s going to be.”

“Yes. This is how it’s going to be from now on.” He bent down and kissed her.

She felt tingly all over.
