“I’m nervous but I’ll be glad when I finish the exam Wednesday. Even if I don’t pass this time, I will be ready for a break.”

“You’ll definitely pass,” Sylas said. “Now, let’s get back to it. Nic, you want to quiz her next or you want me to?”

“Wait a second.” She looked at the time on her screen. “You both said we could take a ten minute break. I have two more minutes left…Masters.” She paused and stared at their images on the screen. “There is so much in my head right now that if someone asked me what a deposition was I’d probably say it had something to do with a train stop.”

They laughed.

“Baby, you’re going to do great,” Nic said. He turned to Sylas. “But I believe our girl is right.”

“Me, too,” Sylas said. “Ashley, close your books. Take a long break. Relax.”

“I’m not sure I should, guys. I only have the rest of tonight, Saturday, and Sunday before I have to drive to Denver. I’ll have some time Monday night in the hotel to study for the test the next day, but that’s it. I’m a wreck. I just know I need more time.”

“You’re going to be fine, sweetheart,” Nic said. “Your answers to all the practice questions we’ve gone over with you are spot on.”

“B-but—”

“No more, sub,” Sylas said in a deep, demanding tone. “Do as your Masters have said. Turn on your television, sit back, and really relax. At least for an hour. And only study until midnight. No more than that. Take a bath. Get in bed. And quit worrying that pretty little head of yours.”

Hearing his command made her feel better. Her guys believed she was ready. God, I hope I am. “Yes, Sir.”

He smiled. “I love you, sweetheart.

“I love you, too, but I miss you so much.”

“You’ll see us before you know it.”

Nic turned to him and shook his head. “I love you, sweetheart. We’ll Skype you in the morning.”

She frowned. “In the morning? Why do we have to stop and end our Skype session now? You don’t have to go to the office, do you? It’s night time.”

“As a matter of fact, baby, we are going into the office,” Nic said. “Sylas and I have a bunch of work we need to finish for the morning.”

“But that’s Saturday. Attorneys aren’t supposed to have to work on the weekend.” But she knew better. Phoebe worked most weekends.

Nic smiled. “Just be patient, and we will talk to you tomorrow. Goodnight. I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

“I love you,” Sylas said. “Sleep well, sweetheart.

“I love you. Bye.”

Nic closed his laptop and turned to Sylas. “You almost blew our secret.”

Sylas looked surprised. “How?”

“When you said to her, ‘You’ll see us before you know it.’ But lucky for you I changed the subject before she could ask what that meant.” Nic placed his laptop in his bag and sat it by his suitcase. “If she wasn’t worried about her exam I bet she would have caught on. Our girl is very smart. What time do we need to leave?”

“The O’Learys’ jet will be landing at the airport shortly. We’ve got a little time yet.”

Sylas had become quite close to Ethel and her husbands. So had he. But both of them had been shocked and thrilled when the O’Learys had offered their corporate jet so that they could return to Destiny to spend some time with Ashley.

“I can’t believe that we will be at her door in less than five hours, bro.”

Sylas finished packing his bag. “I’m glad we’re doing this.”
