“I agree with you,” Janice said. “The fewer people who know the better chance we have at catching the bad guys.”

Clay brought out his phone. “I’ll call Zane and Maddox and tell them that we are flying out tonight for Dallas. Jay and I will inspect the warehouse ourselves.”

“And me, too,” Izzy stated flatly.

“We’re dealing with criminals, sweetheart,” Jay said. “It’s too dangerous.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll be packing. Besides, this is my investigation. I’m the one in charge. R

emember? And this is a white-collar crime. It’s not like we’re dealing with mobsters.”

“We have the whole flight to talk about it, angel.” Clay put his arm around her.

“Don’t think you’re going to change my mind on this, guys, because you’re not. I’m going.”

Clay and Jay looked at each other and then turned their attention back to her. In unison, they said, “We’ll see.”

Chapter Twelve

Once inside the jet, Jay stored the luggage in the hold. When he came back to the main lounge, he saw Anne handing drinks to Izzy and Clay.

“Welcome back,” Anne greeted him and then yawned. “Excuse me. May I get you a nightcap, sir?”

He shook his head. “No thank you. I know this was short notice, Anne, so get some rest. If we need anything, we’ll let you know. Otherwise we can fend for ourselves for the time being. I just spoke with Zane and Maddox. They said the flight should be uneventful and we should be landing around six a.m. Dallas time. Take off in about five minutes. You get settled and just rest.”

“Thank you.” Anne moved into the seat next to the galley that adjusted into a bed, pulling the curtain for privacy.

Zane’s voice came over the speaker. “We’ve been cleared for takeoff. Please take your seats and buckle up.”

The three of them took their seats, which placed Izzy between him and Clay. Just where I want her to be. Always.

The engines roared and the jet sped down the runway. When they were safely in the air, he turned to Izzy and Clay. “Do either of you want something to eat?”

“I’m still full from that delicious meal we enjoyed,” she said.

“Then I think we should all stretch out on the bed and relax. It’s been a very long day.”

“That sounds like a perfect plan to me,” Clay said.

“I agree.” She stood and walked to the bedroom, her movements enticing him for more than just sleep.

When she was out of earshot, he turned to Clay. “We should let her sleep, but damn, I don’t know if I can resist her.”

“Me either, but we must, bro. She’s got to be completely exhausted.”

“I am sure she is. God, it’s amazing how she figured everything out so fast. Clay, I still can’t wrap my head around Bill stealing from us. How long do you think this has been going on?”

“Who knows? For all we know he was stealing from Dad, too. But I know she’s right. The evidence, though only circumstantial at the moment, is enough to convince me.”

“Me, too. He’s guilty, but he’s still family.”

“The only family we’ve had since the accident. It’s been twelve years.”

“I know, but we can’t just let him get away with this. It isn’t right to our other stockholders or employees. Once we get the proof we need, we’ll confront him. He’ll have no other choice but to step down.”

“What about the money?” Clay asked. “The thirty-five million in Dallas is only the tip of the iceberg, I’m sure.”

“Once we get the full picture of how much he’s taken, we’ll demand he pay it back or we’ll press charges.”
