“I’m fine. I promise.” Especially since you’re here now. Just being held by them made her feel safe, protected.

“Would you guys like something to drink before Cami takes you on the tour?” Izzy asked.

“No thank you,” Miguel answered.

“Nothing for me, either.” Roberto turned to Cami, touching her cheek gently. “Show Miguel and me what happened. We want to see it.”

She nodded.

“Well, I could certainly use a glass of wine,” Izzy said in a nervous tone. Her friend was clearly more shaken about what they’d found than she wanted to appear. “How about you, Toni?”

“Definitely.”

As her friends went into the kitchen, Cami took Miguel and Roberto to the bedroom. “This is the dress—or was the dress I wore on our date last night.”

Their nostrils flared with seeming anger. They seemed to understand on a deep level how violated this made her feel.

“Did you leave it out on a chair, sweetheart?” Miguel asked, pulling her in close.

“No. It was hung up with the rest of my nice dresses.”

His eyes narrowed. “That’s strange. Why would the bastard pick that particular dress?”

“I really don’t know. I never thought about it.”

“How did they get in?” Roberto picked up her suitcases, which were sitting by her bed.

“The back door in the kitchen.” She took him and Miguel to it. Izzy and Toni were sipping their wine, attempting to calm their nerves. Cami turned to Miguel and Roberto. “As you can see, the intruder broke the pane and must have reached in to unlock it.”

Roberto sat down her suitcases, and he and Miguel began inspecting the damage.

“I forgot to clean up the glass. Do I have time before I go?”

“I’ll clean it up, Cami,” Toni said. “Don’t worry about it.”

Miguel pointed at the pane without glass. “This needs to be secured.”

“I agree,” Roberto said. “Camille, you wouldn’t happen to have a board lying around, and a hammer and nails?”

“I don’t.” She was grateful at how sweet they were being. It was wonderful having them take care of everything for her. She was used to managing things alone.

“Not a problem. Miguel and I can have Jim, who does all our maintenance at the restaurant, come over and fix this for you, mi amor.”

“Great plan. You three go to the airport,” Izzy said. “Jay and Clay should be here any minute. We’ll wait for your guy and lock up when he’s gone.”

Cami hugged Izzy and Toni, and then picked up Peanut. “Be a good boy for Aunt Toni and Tasha.”

After all the good-byes, she walked out the door with Miguel and Roberto, who were carrying her luggage. Not recognizing their driver, who was holding the door for them, she asked, “Where’s Hank?”

“We requested another driver from the service, sweetheart,” Miguel said. “We didn’t want to upset you again.”

God, they are like no other men I’ve ever known. So kind.

“I can take care of these for you.” The driver, whose nametag identified him as Paul, took her bags from Miguel and Roberto and loaded them into the trunk.

Once again, she sat in the limo between the two of them. “I like Hank. What happened wasn’t his fault. I was just a little taken aback when I first learned his name.”

“We like Hank, too.” Roberto held her hand. “In fact, he’s who we request whenever we need a car.”
