In the silence, he dropped his chin and brushed his lips across hers, teasing her with what could be so hot between them. “You need to answer me, Freckles.”

Heat spiraled through her at the soft rumble of his voice. She ran her fingers over his scruffy face and decided to let her body speak for her. Leaning forward a little, she pressed her mouth against his, owning the kiss for a heartbeat. He drew their bodies closer, leaving no space between them, and he deepened the kiss, filling her with passion so easily.

After that, there was only her need and his answering lust driving their bodies together. And when his kiss turned urgent, he gathered her in his arms and led them around the other side of his truck. Her back bumped against the passenger side door. It didn’t matter if anyone could see them. She wanted him, needed him. Desperately.

He nipped her neck. “Can we do this? Is it safe?”

“I’m already pregnant,” she gasped, and squirmed when he licked his way from the base of her shoulder to her ear.

His low chuckle spread across her in a wild rush. “I mean for the baby. You already know I can be rough.”

“Oh.” Her eyes fluttered when he grabbed her breasts and squeezed, never stopping with the nips on her neck. “The doctor told me that as long as sex is comfortable for me, it’s comfortable for the baby.”

He massaged her breasts again. “You’ll tell me right away if something’s uncomfortable?”

She laughed.

He lifted his head and frowned. “Something funny?”

“It’s me,” she told him, giving him a look. “When have I not spoken my mind?”

His mouth twitched. “Mmm . . . I do like that about you, Freckles.”

She began grinding against him, the need overwhelming her. His eyes darkened when he released her legs. He unbuttoned her shorts then reached for his wallet in his back pocket. She grabbed his hands before he could rip the condom open. “I was tested with the pregnancy test. All clear. You?”

“Last month with my physical.” He paused. Then, “I don’t have unprotected sex, Megan, not with anyone.”

And yeah, that was kinda the point, wasn’t it? “Usually, I don’t either,” she explained, not even recognizing the ravenous lust pouring from her voice.

Whatever crossed her face caused heady emotion to cross his. He cupped her face. “You want to feel me?”

Unashamed, she nodded.

A low moan vibrated deep in his chest. “Ah, Freckles, there’s nothing I want more than having nothing between us too.”

Sure, it was a statement. One she thought they both needed.

Her shorts were soon dangling off the leg hooked on his arm, and his jeans rested around his ankles. His low moan slid across her as he sank inside her. So deep. So perfect. So big and hard. Weeks she had been dreaming of having him close again. But even now, being with Nash seemed so different than before. He wasn’t playful like he had been that night at the wedding. He wasn’t tying her up and blowing her mind. He watched her. Deeply. Intently. As if, he was making a point, not only for himself but her too. They were together now. And she read that message in every possessive thrust of his hips forward and low growl vibrating from deep in his chest.

Lost in that claim, she held onto his neck, moaning into the pleasure, watching his eyes widen with the intensity. For all these things that seemed off and wrong, being with Nash again seemed stable . . . safe.

In his arms, everything was okay in a world that looked different now.

She began to let go in a way she hadn’t since she heard the words: you’re pregnant. Her head fell back against the window, the pleasure sweeping her away with every one of his long, hot strokes, dragging against her most sensitive flesh. He drove her higher and higher, thrusting so she felt all of him. Flesh against flesh.

Megan wished to stay just like that and fall into the pleasure, but then his hand threaded into her hair. She found herself looking at him again, lost in the cocky depths of his eyes. In the sureness that he held about their future. In the belief that all the things that could go wrong, wouldn’t. And in that promise, she let everything go.

She came against him with deep shudders and a long breathy moan, vaguely hearing Nash joining her.

Though it wasn’t until she felt his lips press against her forehead that her mind was capable of forming any coherent thought.

When she opened her eyes, he was staring right at her. Hard. “I’ll take that as a yes to giving us a shot?”

She licked her lips, adding moisture to her dry throat. “We’re going to take baby steps. Like, really, really slow baby steps. Because you’re right—I’ve never given you a chance, and you . . . no, we . . . deserve that chance.” Truth was, she wanted them to work, beyond all the obstacles.

He brushed his lips across her damp forehead. “That’s a good place to start.” When he leaned away, he pulled up her shorts then redressed himself. Once she finished with her buttons, he placed his hands on either side of her head against the window, leaned in, and gave his smart-ass smirk. “But not good enough. Say it.”

“Say what?”
