Page 20 of Loving Luca

I was so grateful to Luca’s mother. I couldn’t manage my expanding brood without her. Having her so close made me sad my own mother never got to see my big, beautiful family. She would have been the world’s best grandmother. But what I lacked in relatives, Luca made up for in devotion. He was a hands-on dad and helped me a great deal.

“Okay, I’m ready,” Allie announced, bringing me back to the task at hand. She was wearing a tutu and black boots and was very happy to have accomplished getting dressed by herself.

“You take after your father. You’ve got a flare for the creative.”

“Daddy says I take after you, pretty and smart but too stubborn for my own good.”

I smiled at my husband’s assessment as I grabbed her backpack and ushered her out of the room.

We walked downstairs together, and I giggled from the front porch as I watched my crew clamoring into the minivan. I could never get over seeing the paparazzi shots of the illustrious ten-time Grammy award-winning Luca Masterson in a soccer mom minivan. He really was the best father and the most down-to-earth rocker to ever walk the planet. He never missed a parent-teacher conference, a recital, or a single doctor’s appointment, despite his busy schedule. He made sure that his fame never came before his family. He kept all his promises and made good on some new ones, all the while topping the charts and creating music he was proud of. I took a chance on loving Luca, and it was, without a doubt, the best decision I’d ever made in my life.

The End
