“I can’t see,” I say, and he rolls off me.

“Keep your eyes closed for a second, precious,” he comforts, gently putting his hand over my face. “It will come back. You have to remember you just had a once in a lifetime experience.”

“Literally,” I quip.

“Your body needs a second to adjust, and that includes your head.”

I reach for him, unable to see him with my eyes closed, but it doesn’t matter as he doesn’t make me wait. He pulls me into an embrace, our hearts pumping in rhythm as I rest my chest against his, my head tucked into the crook of his neck.

A few seconds later I open my eyes to the sight of stars, and reality. A reality that is somehow better than the fantasy I created alone so many nights in my room.

His lips come down softly on the top of my forehead and a smile washes over my face as we just lie there, together, basking in our post-coital afterglow.

I feel a finger at my opening and then he breaches me with a single digit.

“Are you ready for more already?” I kid, knowing I will be in a second too, as soon as I can catch my breath.

“I’m still focused on the first time, making sure everything I put inside you stays inside you where it belongs. We just made a baby. I know it just as sure as I know the sun will rise tomorrow, beautiful.”

This is everything I always wanted, being held in his arms, hearing those words, thinking I might be carrying his child. Our child.

I may only be eighteen years old but my life already feels complete. Nah, scratch that. Because of him, because of us, it’s just beginning. And with him by my side, it’s guaranteed to be perfect. Always.

“I love you so damn much, little girl.”

“I love you too, Daddy.”

Logan

I’m so head over heels for my girl I don’t even notice Eric’s G-Wagon in the driveway until I’ve already pulled in and it’s already too late.

All this time I’ve been obsessed with protecting his daughter from everyone and everything under the sun, I’ve slipped and forgotten to protect our relationship from the one and only man who could give us troubles, not that I’ll allow it, but he sure can try and he will if he suspects anything.

Before I even get the Range Rover in park he’s out of the house waving his phone at me, an angry look plastered on his face. “Since when don’t you answer your phone?”

Since I turned it off so as not to be distracted while claiming your daughter’s innocence.

“Battery must have died.”

He cocks an eyebrow at me as I step out of the car and Layla does the same before I can even get around to get the door for her and help her down.

“And where were you two?” he asks, the suspicion in his tone not masked at all.

“We were at breakfast. Everything all right?”

“Since when?” he continues the questioning.

“Since breakfast time. What crawled up your ass?”

“Why are you wearing Logan’s shirt?” he asks Layla.

Damn, this is blowing up fast and right in my face. I need to get it under control.

“Eric, before you jump down our throats why don’t we all go inside and sit down.”

“Stop right there,” he tries to boss me around, getting in my way. Now it’s my turn to cock an eyebrow to let him know he better watch himself around me. We both know who runs this ship and I’m not about to let anyone else have a turn at the wheel. “I want answers before you have time to think something up.”
