As we were making plans, we all agreed on one thing, we are each other's family, and no man should be left behind. With that thought, we found a massive, unincorporated city in North Carolina and all bought acres of land and built ourselves our own houses and formed a compound so to speak. Due to the amount of money we paid for the land and the fact that it was forest only, not yet attached to a town or city, we were allowed to name it and create our own ‘city’ if you will. When all of the land was purchased and our homes erected, we sort of sat around looking at one another with our thumbs up our ass. It was during this time that we knew we needed something else to do. A purpose.

After some research and talking with the guys, we started Choppers Security. We spent six months getting the business up and running and getting our names out there. We didn’t want to trade on our service and the different missions we had done and completed, but we did drop our names, knowing those who knew us from that time would figure out it was all of us and that was all of the word of mouth we needed.

The problem was, we were all still restless. Unsettled. Working with rich fucks wasn’t enough and didn’t serve the morals and beliefs we had. Sitting at the bar we built on our land one night, Slip looked at all of us and said, “we should form an MC. We all ride hogs.” I thought his ass had taken one too many shots to the head, myself, but everyone else seemed to love the idea.

As the leader of our squad, my life is normally regimented and everything is done with purpose, so I am not for doing shit just to do it. I said as much. That is when he hit us with some information that cemented the plan. “We could be one of the ninety-nine percenters. That means we do legal shit to help our community and those who can’t help themselves. We pay dues, do charity work and we could even guard victims of crimes or witnesses and such who need protection, and or security to go to court and such. It could be a free service since we will make all of our money from the business anyway.” Thus the Rugged Chopper MC was formed. Slip grew up around MCs with his father being one of the enforcers for one in Indiana where he grew up, so it was an easy decision to make him the Prez. The guys insisted I be the VP as squad leader even though I protested and begged off, but they wouldn’t take no for an answer. Busby is our secretary and Ammo is our treasurer.

“She is on the stand now.” Slip says peeking through the courtroom door.

“Good. The faster we get this over with the better.” I know it sounds assholish, but I am feeling like shit right now. My chest is constricted, and something feels…off…wrong like I am missing something and for a man like me, that does not bode well.

Elena finishes her testimony, and we escort her home where the local police for her town take over. Pulling into my garage, I stumble out of my truck, my equilibrium off balance and my breathing shallow. My ears are ringing. A buzzing, nagging feeling…a chanting in my ear but I can’t make out the words. “Shit.” I put my head against my front door. This hasn’t happened to me since I was ten. I didn’t understand it then and I don’t get it now. The only person I trusted back then was my grandma Flora. She smiled at me when I told her about it and patted my head. “It will serve you well later, my boy, when she needs you.” I had no idea what she meant then, but somehow now, I know I am going to find out.

Chapter Three

Fern

“Miss Atlas. Miss Atlas, can you hear me? Miss Atlas?” I hear my name being called like a faint serenade in the wind. I can hear beeping and slight sounds like chimes and bells, with warm wind blowing across my face. Everything is light and airy as the sounds fade in and out.

My hair blows with the wind and the piece that falls on my face is moved, almost like a finger grazing my skin. “Come on beauty. Let me see your eyes.” A boom of lightning invades my walk through the grass and demands something from me. The odd thing is, it sounds like what I would imagine the voice of God, the fragrance surrounding me is man. My heart begins to beat like a woman riding a horse and with those faint beeping sounds, they are growing louder. My mind is conjuring a thought, a memory, but it is out of reach because it is wrapped in a vision of something not yet experienced. Bliss.
