Cap was standing behind him. He’d heard the whole thing. “Are you out of your mind?” he asked again. “Do you have any idea what you’ve already cost us?”
“Do you have any idea what they did to my face?”
“You’re not going to do a thing.”
“Oh yes I am. ”
“Oh, no you’re not. This is over.”
Tyler was defiant. “No it isn’t! It’s over when I say it’s over!”
“It’s over now,” said Cap. “You’re fired.”
“I’m what?”
“You’re fired. Get your things and get out.”
“You can’t fire me.”
“You don’t think so? You’re done. You do nothing but cause problems for me. You treat this job like it’s a joke and you cost us both the contract and the party.”
Cap crossed his arms and drew a breath. Then he leveled his gaze at his only son and said in a steady, measured voice. “You’re fired. Get your things and get out.”
“Fin
e!” yelled Tyler. “If that’s what you want then fine.” He knocked some stuff over in a fit of rage. A case of kettle chips and a box of plastic forks. Then he stormed out the side door and headed straight for Romeo.
Tyler was hot. Spit flew from his mouth as he yelled. “This is all your fault!”
Then he pushed Romeo or, at least he tried to. Romeo didn’t budge.
Tyler backed up, but he didn’t back off. “I’m gonna get you for this. So help me, if its the last thing I do, I’m gonna get you for this. You and your whole stupid family.”
Romeo took a step closer. “You keep this up and it just might be the last thing you do.”
Despite his posturing Tyler knew he was out of his depth.
“You’re gonna be sorry,” he said.
“That’s enough!” yelled Cap. Then he pointed at Romeo. “You. Loverboy. Go on, get out of here, now. And if I ever catch you hanging around my daughter again I will make you very sorry.”
Romeo looked over at Ant but she gave him nothing.
“Okay. Okay,” he said. “I’m leaving.”
“That’s right you are,” said Tyler.
“You too,” said Cap.
“Me too?”
“Yeah. You too. You’re fired, remember?”
“But I thought…”
“You thought what?”
“I thought that was, you know… just talk.”
