“What is happening?” asked Ant.

“I don’t know,” said Romeo. “But I’m a little scared.”

“How about a drink sweetie?”

Ant smiled. “That’s a great idea dad. Let’s all go to the bar.”

As they gathered together around the small bar, Ant filled their glasses with champagne.

Cap raised his arm and said, “A toast. To my little girl. I…” he stopped and pulled his wife closer. “We, are so very proud of you honey. Congratulations.”

“Thank you,” said Ant. “I’m so glad you could all be here to help me… Um, us…” She took Romeo’s hand before continuing. “Celebrate.”

Then there was a whole lot of clinking and drinking.

“Hey. You should bring Sam out here to meet everyone,” suggested Romeo.

“That’s a great idea. I’ll be right back.” Ant darted into the kitchen and came back with Sam in tow.

“Everyone, I’d like you all to meet my chef Samantha.”

They all said hello, or smiled, or waved or nodded. And of course, Sam smiled and said hi in return.

“It’s so nice to meet Ant’s family. And thank you for giving me this opportunity to cook for all of you. I hope you enjoy dinner.”

“I’m sure we will,” said Mrs Monty.

“I can’t wait,” said Mrs Cap.

“What are we having?” asked Cap. “I’m starving.”

“Cheesesteaks,” said Sam, without missing a beat.

“Huh?”

“What’s that?”

Then Romeo and Antoinette burst out laughing. Like it was the funniest thing they’d ever heard.

“Oh, you should see the look on your faces,” said Ant.

“Very funny,” said her dad. “Very funny.”

Sam chuckled and apologized. “I’m sorry. They said you’d find it funny.”

“So what are we having tonight?” asked Mrs Monty.

Sam graciously turned the floor back over to Ant.

“What are we having honey?” asked her mom.

“Everything!” said Ant, clapping her hands together. “We’re making the whole menu for you tonight. A little bit of everything. Arugula salad with gorgonzola and pears, tuna carpaccio, pizza with spicy sopressata and sweet peppers, fire roasted whole chicken, risotto with wild mushrooms, ravioli with brown butter and sage, pana cotta with macerated strawberries, flourless chocolate ganache…” She went on and on. Rattling off every menu item and then some. She finally stopped when she saw her dad actually start to drool.

“Is that it?” he asked.

“No,” she said grinning. “There’s more. Lots more. Are you ready?”

“Yes!”
