“Everything.” Then she leaned back in her bed, grabbed a pillow and put it over her face to stifle a happy giggle.

Nikki pulled the pillow away. “You really like this guy.”

“I do.”

Nikki scrunched up her face and arched an eyebrow. “Did you have phone sex with him?”

“No!”

“Are you sure?”

“Of course I’m sure.”

“When are you going to see him again?”

“Tonight. He wants me to meet him at Brix for a drink.”

“Oooh, fancy.”

“It’s just a wine bar.”

“Yeah. A fancy wine bar.”

“Hey you two! I can hear you cackling away up there.” It was Cap. He was standing at the bottom of the stairs looking up. “Anyone want breakfast?”

Nikki jumped off the bed. “He’s up. Let’s go tell him about your new boyfriend.”

“No!”

“Come on.”

“You promised.”

“Have I ever kept a promise?”

Ant knew Nikki was just kidding. Probably? Maybe? But…

“Okay okay. Don’t get your panties in a bunch. I won’t say anything to him.”

Ant relaxed. Then ran her hands through her hair. “I need a shower. ”

“Me first,” said Nikki, running out of the room.

Ant shook her head. Hot water was always a problem in their house. There never seemed to be enough. So whoever got the last shower was usually out of luck.

After Nikki left, Ant got off her bed, put her hair up in a pony tail and headed down for a quick cup of coffee. As she passed the bathroom door she gave it a firm knock. “Save me some please.”

Her request was met by a terribly off key rendition of Cindi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”.

Once downstairs Ant found her dad in the kitchen. She was gonna have to talk to him. She was gonna have to tell him. It was pretty much now or never.

“You’re up early,” said Ant.

“Who can sleep?”

“Mom can.”
