“We have something we need to discuss,” said his dad.

“And we wanted to see you,” she said again, leaning in to give him a kiss. “Oooh, you’re all sweaty. Yuck.”

He replied with a smile and a duh shake of his head. “Yeah. It’s hot out.”

“Well, go upstairs and take a shower. There’s still plenty of clothes in your old room.”

“I’m fine.”

“Go.”

“Mom, I’m fine. I’ll shower later.”

“Well here,” she said thrusting a dish towel at him. “At least dry off your face.”

Romeo took the towel and sat down next to his dad.

“So what’s up?”

To that his dad just raised an eyebrow. It was subtle but it spoke volumes.

“Uh oh. What is it?”

“I got a call from the Mayor’s office this morning.”

Romeo was sure he wasn’t going to like where this was headed. “Okaaayyyy…”

“It seems there was some kind of altercation at Cap’s the other night. You know anything about that?”

“Of course he doesn’t,” said his mom.

“Yeah…”

“Were you involved?”

“Of course he wasn’t,” said his mom.

“Yeah…”

“Tell me what happened.”

Romeo laid it all out for him. Marco and Benny, Tyler and Gary Green Shirt, Marco getting sucker punched, Tyler getting hurt. The whole thing.

His dad just shook his head.

“I’m sorry dad. I really did go over there to try and keep the peace. ”

“But that’s not what happened, is it?”

“No.”

“And now it turns out that since Cap’s was the primary location for this fight, and that Tyler kid was involved…”

“Again,” chimed in his mom.

“Again,” echoed his dad. “And since that Tyler kid was involved again in another police response issue, the Mayor has forfeited their contest prizes.”

“And given them to us!” said Mrs Monty excitedly.
