The intensity of the sensation made me cry out. There was no slowing down now. My body rocked and rippled as the water rushed over me, bringing me to the edge in a matter of seconds. I lifted up to get as close to the faucet as I could hold myself, and the tension that had built through my hips and thighs exploded.

I dropped down into the tub again and let my legs slide down the sides as the waves of pleasure rolled over me. It took a few minutes for me to get a hold of myself again, and I managed to turn the water off just before it started to overflow. I floated around in the tub for a little while longer before getting out and crawling into bed.

I woke up Tuesday morning as the first hints of sunlight were coming through the window. It was early, but I already had a text from my sister. She was apologizing for how frazzled and upset she had been on the phone and checking in on me to make sure I was doing alright. She did that every time I had to go out of town for work.

As jumpy as I got before leaving and during the actual travel part, once I was at my destination, I was fine. I was used to being away and easily adapted to it. Jasmine, on the other hand, worried about me until I got back home. I knew it was a lingering effect of us losing our parents. Even after all these years, she still struggled with it. Being an adult didn’t take away the fear that something could happen to me, like what happened to them.

I texted with her a little bit as I got ready for my second day of working at the King Vineyard. I headed out with a new plan not to be unprofessional around the hot King men. I would do my job and then head home. Jasmine and I had planned for her to come visit when I was done with this assignment, and I was looking forward to spending some time with her.

I just had to get through this first.

“Morning,” Derek said as he opened the door for me.

“Morning,” I said, then turned to see Ally holding baby Bella. “Hey!”

“Good morning,” Noah said, coming up behind Ally and pressing a kiss to her cheek. “Come on in. The coffee is really good today.”

“Imported fancy coffee,” Ally said.

“Is that the name brand?” I asked.

“No, it’s a description, smart ass.” Derek replied. “The name brand is in Spanish, and I wouldn’t dare to try to say it.”

I joined them at the booth they had been sitting in and filled a mug with the dark, rich coffee. I wasn’t that much of a coffee person, but I did enjoy it from time to time.

“This is really good,” I said, holding up my empty mug just minutes later. “I feel like I could run a mile.”

Noah laughed, and Derek shook his head.

“It barely affects me anymore,” he said.

“If you want something to calm you down, you could take the baby for a second,” Ally said. “I can’t drink hot coffee and hold her for an irrational fear of spilling it on her.”

“Sure,” I said, holding my arms out. “I never get to hold her.”

“That’s because Cam always takes everyone else’s chance,” Derek said.

Ally handed me Bella, and I held her close to my chest. She was awake but not being fussy. Most of the time when someone else held her, she would get a little cranky, but she never did that with me. I attributed it to the way I held her, which was clearly superior to my other brothers in ways I simply couldn’t explain. I was just better at it than them.

I loved holding her, but when I did, I couldn’t ignore that I felt a little twinge of sadness. I’d always wanted a family of my own. I might have been a quiet and reserved guy who preferred books and my lab over going into public, but I loved kids. Bella was a joy in the periphery of my life, and I cherished every time I got to see her and hold her. I hoped to be a good influence on her as she grew up.

A knock on the door stopped the conversation in its tracks, and we all looked over to the heavy wooden door.

“Did you invite Cam or something?” I asked Derek.

“Nope. He said he wouldn’t be in until eleven,” he said.

“I’ll get it,” Ally said. Before anyone could protest, she was already on her feet, cradling her coffee cup and heading to the door.

When it opened, I saw Danica in the doorway, Alex behind her.

“Oh, hey, good morning,” Ally said. It wasn’t clear if she was referring to Danica or Alex, but Alex seemed to believe it was for him and responded with a grumbled greeting.
