Billionaire released a sigh, and I watched as he ran his hand down his face. He was laid back in the seat and staring at me hard.

“Who you been talking to, yo? Shit was good just this morning, Normani. Of course, it’s in my plans to ask you to be my wife. Sooner than you think, but don’t worry about all that because it ain’t in my list of plans to be telling you when Ima propose to you. Shorty, I’m not sure if you know this, but for a nigga to have you around my kids, living with me, that shit is major. Ima propose, you just make sure you say yes when I ask,” he said.

“I was talking to my mother earlier today. Not to say that she put anything in my head, but she did put a few things in perspective for me. I feel like things between me and you are moving so fast, and I don’t mean it in a bad way,” I told him.

“Shit going to move even faster when you find out you pregnant. Let’s go over some rules before you leave a nigga for New York,” he said.

He threw that pregnant comment out there and then just switched subjects like he hadn’t dropped that P word that had me worried. I was worried for two reasons; one, my period was late, and my period is literally never late. Since I’ve gotten my period, it has always come right on time. On top of that, I was always tired. I mean, I knew that with my demanding career, I would always be tired because I worked long hours, and I had to be up early, but I was a different type of tired these days.

For example, on the weekend, I could take a three to four-hour nap, and I would wake up still talking about how tired I was. I wasn’t claiming pregnancy yet, which is why I hadn’t said anything to anyone. If I was pregnant, I would have no one to blame but myself because I had been taking risks with Billionaire for almost a month, and this would just be God’s way of serving me my consequences for not protecting myself.

“What are your rules, Billionaire? I already know that I have to call or text you once I land, take a picture of the license plate of the Uber driver, and keep my location on, so you can track me. What else, daddy?” I asked in a sarcastic way because an overprotective father is exactly what he was acting like.

“I need the room number to the hotel, forward me the schedule that you’re going to be on for the next three days because I want to know exactly where you are at all times. You trying to be funny when a nigga just knows it’s some sick-minded motha fuckas out here who be preying on women who fly alone,” he told me.

“Okayyyyyy. You always talking about somebody snatching me up. I’m staying at the exact hotel where the event is going on for the next three days. Anything else?” I asked.

“Yeah, don’t be letting no niggas up in that room. I don’t give a fuck if it’s one of your doctor friends. Tell them your nigga said that you can’t have no friends,” he seriously told me, and all I could do was laugh while rolling my eyes at him.

For over thirty minutes, I listened to Billionaire talk crazy, coming up with rules for me that were so ridiculous that I eventually just tuned him out. It was finally time for me to get out of the car and head to the plane, so while Billionaire went to the back and got my carry-on bag, I went in the backseat and grabbed the coat I would need and my purse. It was already cool in Miami, so I could only imagine the many ways I would be in New York freezing.

“Damn. I miss your ass already,” Billionaire told me as he and I made it to the terminal.

I laughed as I walked into his arms and wrapped my arms around his neck, then kissed his lips.

“I’ll be back before you know it, baby. I love you, and I’m going to miss you so much. You and the kids,” I told him and meant it.

We stayed wrapped in each other’s arms for about five more minutes, and then it was time for me to board. I was such a sucker because I started crying once I was fully away from him and taking the long trail of steps onto the plane. Once inside, I took the window seat that I’d picked, and in another twenty minutes, once everyone from first class was checked in, everyone else started to fill up the plane. My phone was in my hands, and I was back to reading over the document. I had a bottle of water, my Air pods were in my ear, and I was listening to Monica’s, Miss Thang album. Before I knew it, it was time for takeoff.

Like I knew I would, I stayed up the entire flight, and when we landed in New York, I was one of the first people off the plane. By this time, I had my coat on, I was rolling my Louis Vuitton carry on throughout the airport, and my purse was on my shoulders as I sent a text message to Billionaire, letting him know that I’d arrived in New York.

The next day

It was going on 5:00 P.M., and the first day of the medical convention was a success. Doctors from all over the world attended this event. Although I had been coming to the convention for the past few years, it always amazed me that there were doctors there old enough to not only be my grandparents, but my great grandparents and they were still in the field. I promised myself that I wouldn’t retire until my body literally just couldn’t do it anymore. I wanted my little patients to grow up and have kids, and I would be the pediatrician for their children. That’s just how much I loved what I did.

For the older people in attendance, the fact that they were still active in medicine proved this was such a great career. Today mostly consisted of ice breaker activities. Administrators of different hospitals around the world presented updates on new protocols that were in development, and a few researchers spoke on medical trials that were in progress for the treatment of diseases like sickle cell, leukemia, and autoimmune diseases like lupus, sarcoidosis, and rheumatoid arthritis. I loved everything about the day, but I couldn’t lie and say I wasn’t smiling when the last speaker for this evening wrapped up his speech, and everyone was packing their things to head back to their rooms.

I heard a few women sitting next to me talking about how they were going to hit up a couple of the clubs. All I could think about was how no one could pay me to step foot out of that hotel because the weather outside had reached the low twenties. I was a Miami girl, and I was so ready to get back to my city where the weather was much warmer. The second I made it back to my suite, I planned to soak in a tub, order some room service—although I had been eating literally all day—and falling asleep on the phone with my man. The event today was catered for breakfast and lunch, and all day, there had been different snacks and sweets laid out for us. I’d been eating from that all day, so you would think that I would be full, but I wasn’t.

“Hey. I saw when you walked in this morning. I kept saying that you looked so familiar, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. Your Billion’s girlfriend, right?” a beautiful, caramel skinned woman walked up to me and asked.

Different vendors were in attendance, and some had made presentations. I remembered her from one of the companies that provided laboratory supplies. I looked at the name tag on her shirt, and it said that her name was Suki. I picked up on her Miami accent, so she had to have been from back home, although I’d never seen her before. If I had to guess, I would say that she was maybe twenty-nine or thirty. Like I said already, she was very beautiful and quite statuesque, so when she talked to me, she was looking down.

I loved the red pantsuit she was wearing with nude heels. It was nice to see someone else all dressed up because when I walked into the big conference room thi

s morning in my white pantsuit and my heels, I felt like I was overdressed.

“Yeah,” I said, keeping it short as I gathered my pamphlets and everything else that I’d collected.

The whole time I did that, I felt her eyes on me as if there was something else she wanted to say.

“We used to date. Years ago. Back when the two of us were in high school. I follow him on Instagram, and I saw that he posted you on his profile a few days ago. That’s how your face looked so familiar to me,” she said.

I didn’t even know what to say because she was coming off very weird. It was so unnecessary for her to walk up on me and let me know that she and Billionaire used to date in high school. Ever since I got into a relationship with him, some of the weirdest things just kept on happening. For one, I was now on social media, and like this woman, Suki, just said, Billionaire would post pictures of me and tag me in them. I would always get hundreds and hundreds of friend requests from women I didn’t even know.

Listen, I knew my man wasn’t a saint, and before me, he had been with his fair share of women who I didn’t care to even know about, but whew! I could be in the grocery store and would get stared down from across the aisle by women who looked like they wanted to attack me. I laughed to myself because just the other day, I was telling myself that I would have to learn how to fight… kick... slap, something because Billionaire’s old flings were definitely on me.

“Ummm, okay. Would you like me to tell him that you said hi or something? Where you going with this?” I asked, really wanting to know.
