“Where the fuck are you, Twinkle, with my fuckin’ child? I been calling your ass for a fuckin’ week. What the fuck are you doing?” Loyal barked into the phone like I knew she would.

My temper and attitude were bad, but my sister’s was far worse. As much as I wanted to go back and forth with her over the phone, I had to think about the situation she was in and how she was obviously stressed. I refused to argue with her and make her stress even worse.

“My phone broke, Loyal. I just went and got a new one this morning,” I said, lying through my teeth.

“You a fuckin’ lie! You know what, Twinkle? I’m not doing this shit with you right now. I’m not sure what the fuck you got going on with you and Monterius breaking up, but while you’re on the outside, getting to live your life however you please, just know that the only piece of excitement that I get is when I speak to my daughter for ten minutes over the fuckin’ phone!” she snapped.

There was so much that I wanted to say back to her, but I didn’t. Instead, I just removed the phone from my ear and handed it to Dream, so she could talk to her mother. Their conversation went on for ten minutes, and then Dream finally passed me back the phone.

“Did she ask where you’ve been staying?” I asked Dream, and she shook her head.

“She was so mad, though. Do you think we can talk to the police officers, and they’ll let her come home now, Auntie? She’s sorry for what she did,” Dream sadly said.

Ugh, it broke my heart every time my niece got emotional like this over her mother. I’m not sure what Loyal told Dream over the phone, but it had her crying. I talked to her during the whole drive to Billion’s house, trying to calm her down, and eventually, it worked. My sister had a whole nine years left to serve, and there was nothing I could say to get a little child to see the good in that. The only thing I could tell her was that we had to keep praying, and eventually, her mommy would be home.

I was glad when we pulled up to Billion’s spot. Before I could even park the car, Khari had opened the front door and was running to the car. Dream and Khari were the same age, and the two of them were the best of friends.

“Ooohhh, look at your braids, Dreamy. Auntie Twinkle, can you do mine like Dreamy’s?” Khari asked me, with her little grown self.

Although I was her big cousin, she insisted on calling me auntie, which was cool because I liked the title. I stood there admiring Khari, taking in how pretty she looked this afternoon. She wore a denim Gucci romper, and her long hair was just hanging out, not done yet. Khari was more than likely waiting to get it done by Normani because we all knew Billion would not do it. It was good to see that Khari was in good spirits because she had been going through it with her mama still in a coma.

“Ask your daddy if you can spend the night, and I’ll braid your hair tonight,” I told her.

She jumped up and down in excitement.

The kids ran into the house, and I followed them. I closed the door behind me and watched as the two ran up the stairs, more than likely about to go into Khari’s room. I walked further into the house and found Billion in the living room, flipping through the channels.

“You heading out somewhere? Because if you not, you can be on babysitting duty with the girls,” I told him and flopped on the couch.

“I got to go and look at a couple of houses, but I’ll take them with me. I just gotta take Dream’s booster seat out of your car and put it in mine. Normani should be down in a minute. She was up there, fixing her hair and shit. If I watch the girls today, you can get both of them tonight. I already know that Dream will want to stay the night, so let them chill at yo’ shit. I ain’t about to have the two of them driving my son and me crazy. Nesha is going to drop Lil Bill off later, and Dream and Khari think that we’re supposed to play tea party with them and shit. I love them girls to death, but they be having me do some goofy ass shit,” Billion said, making me laugh.

“Nigga, when you have kids, you turn goofy, so get used to it,” I said.

We talked for about fifteen minutes, and pretty soon, we heard footsteps coming down the stairs. I could tell by the loud stomping and girly laughter that it was Dream and Khari. When they made it down, Khari’s hair was done this time. Khari had a bunch of curly hair, so I could see where Normani had wet it and pulled her hair up into a ponytail. She styled up her baby hairs the way she did her own, and Khari looked cute.

They ran into the den area where Khari showed Dream some of her toys.

A few minutes later, we heard more footsteps coming down the stairs. I looked up, and it was Normani making her way down. I giggled as I watched her sport the happy glow. It was cool this afternoon, so she was cute and comfortable in the lime green sweater with the words, Need Money for Chanel across the front. She paired it with black tights and black and lime green Dolce & Gabbana sneakers. Her long hair was pushed back, and she wore a black headband. A crossbody Dolce & Gabbana purse was draped around her. Every woman knew that when a woman wears a crossbody to the mall, she’s getting ready to do some serious shopping.

I admired the light beat that Normani had done to her face as she sluggishly walked into the room. It wasn’t until she got closer that I saw the huge rock on her finger.

“Wait… wait... wait. Okay, so I knew about the pregnancy, but a ring too? Are the two of you engaged? Billion, I just talked to you this morning on the phone,” I screamed.

I rushed over

to Normani and jumped up and down when I saw the ring. I was soooo happy for them.

“I wanted to tell you last week, but you don’t answer your phone when I call you. When we get married, I’m going to make you my maid of honor. Thank you, Twinkle. Without you, I wouldn’t have found my crazy, fine, handsome, beard wearing soulmate,” Normani said. She then kissed me on the cheek and flopped onto Billion’s lap.

“Gas me up, bae,” Billion told Normani, making the two of us laugh.

“Let’s go now before the two of you get too comfortable,” I said, damn near having to drag Normani off Billionaire.

They were so damn lovey-dovey that it was sick. I finally had her off his damn lap, and we walked out the door together and to my car.

Our day was spent hitting the spa first, and then we stopped at the nail salon, where Normani did a pedicure and a full set while I just needed to get a polish change. After that, we tore down the entire mall. We had to get help from security to put the bags in our car. Now, we were at Nobu Miami, having a late lunch.

“What’s going on with you? I’m picking up on your energy, and it’s off. Are you and Monterius still beefing?” Normani asked and put the menu down to look me in my eyes.
