I just didn’t know what to say. I enjoyed Truth when I was in Cali with him, but Monterius coming over to the house last week just left me confused as hell. I didn’t want to lead either of them on, but however this went, I just knew that one of them would get hur

t in the end.

“I’m going to call you when I get back home. I’m with my girl, and we’re about to hang,” I told him.

Truth sucked his teeth. “Aight, yo,” he said and then hung up the phone on me.

I could hear it in his voice how angry he was at me. I wanted to call back, but I didn’t want to get into a heated battle with him, especially not in front of Khari’s talkative ass. She would, without a doubt, run back and tell my business to anybody with ears and who would listen.

“I’m assuming that you haven’t made your decision yet. Because we’re on the way to see this house, I thought you were going to try to work things out with Monterius,” Normani said.

I just slouched in my seat, not even knowing what the hell to say. Normani released a sigh, and then she continued to drive. I understood why she was concerned, especially with what happened to Denim, but it wasn’t the easiest thing in the world to just pick one, especially when I loved them both. For the rest of the ride home, we listened to Khari talk about everything under the sun in the back seat. She was telling us some of the tea that happened in her kindergarten class, and that little girl had more damn drama than me! She was sitting back there, telling us the tea on how she got into an argument with one of her classmates yesterday because the girl got mad at her for having on the same shoes. The thing is, the drama just kept juicier and juicer, so I didn’t mind listening to her run her mouth.

We eventually pulled up to the gated community, and imagine my surprise when we got to the security booth, and Monterius already had my name on the list as the owner of the home, so it didn’t take much for the guard to let us through. The fact that my name was even on the list proved there actually was a house. The neighborhood was so damn big that after going through the gate, it took another two minutes for us to find the house that the GPS was leading us to.

We eventually pulled up to the beautiful home, and instantly, my hand went over my mouth as I looked at one of the biggest houses on the block. This house was every bit of the homes I would sit online and just lust over. Just from the outside of the house, I could already tell it would have that modern Mediterranean design that I was going for.

The driveway was huge, and I knew it could easily fit a good ten to fifteen cars, plus there were about three garages around the house that could hold other cars. I’d never been into landscaping or anything like that, but I couldn’t get over how beautiful the lawn was. It looked so nice that the grass almost appeared fake.

“Whoahhhh! Who lives here? Is this your house, Auntie Twinkle?” Khari asked from the backseat, but I couldn’t even answer her because I was starstruck by this damn house.

“Twinkle, this house is beautiful, girl. Come on. I’m dying to see what the inside looks like,” Normani excitedly said as she shut the car off and then got out.

She went around to help Khari from the backseat, and while the two held hands, walking to the front door, I led the way. I was so eager to get inside, so I could see what everything looked like. I used the custom made key that Monterius had given me last week, and it fit. I pushed open the double doors, and we were hit with the smell of a new home and fresh paint. Standing inside the foyer, I swear it felt like angels started singing. This home was massive.

I had described my dream home to Monterius years ago, and he literally listened to everything I told him. I always said that I wanted a double winding staircase because I felt like that always gave off a classy, elegant kind of look. From where I stood, I could look through the long walkway, and my eyes landed on the patio doors. There was a huge pool in the backyard, and it looked like a pool from one of those fancy Orlando hotels because there were slides that kids would love to slide down and dive into the pool. There were the barstools in the pool that faced a bar area.

With legs shaky from excitement, I walked further into the house, and with each room, I just grew more and more speechless. It was the fact that this home had two master bedrooms, one of which was downstairs, and the other one was upstairs. They both were so big and spacious that I didn’t even know which one I would choose.

“I counted seven bedrooms so far. Twinkle, this home is huge. It’s so beautiful too. I done worked up a sweat, running behind Khari in this house,” Normani said, coming into one of the bedrooms that I was standing in, which was the perfect size for a nursery.

I was emotional as I stood there because this house had what it took to be the perfect family house. I could hear all the kids running around, and I could smell the good meals that I would cook in the kitchen. Most of all, I could hear all the laughter. My eyes fell on Normani, who had slouched down to the floor, and she was sitting Indian style.

With my hands over my head, I started pacing. As beautiful as this home was, I just knew that it would never be filled with those things I was hoping for because it was too late for Monterius and me. I just didn’t know how to accept a baby he that I wasn’t the one to give to him.

“I can’t take this house, Normani,” I blurted out.

“Girl, what? Why? Even if you don’t want to take it and have Monterius move in, at least still take it for yourself. You told me that he gave it to you as a gift. I know this is one of his ‘I’m sorry’ gifts now that he can’t give you the house like he planned. This shouldn’t be something that’s going to make you forgive what he did but still take it. Your lease will be up soon. You deserve this home, girl,” Normani told me.

I said nothing. Instead, I just sat down next to her and sighed.

“I think you love Truth, but I feel like you love Monterius more. I never approved of the way he cheated on you and did whatever else to hurt you, but for whatever reason, I was always silently rooting for him. I wanted him to get it right, and I wanted the two of you to be that perfect couple. You don’t have to accept anything that’s lower than what you’re worth, though. Now, this million-dollar home is definitely worth it, though,” she said, followed by a laugh.

“You and Billion will probably have to start looking for a bigger home soon too. There is no doubt in my mind that you will be the one to have babies back to back, so y’all are going to need something bigger to hold all them kids,” I joked, just so I could lighten the mood because I knew that I was making it dark with all my damn drama.

Normani laughed, and then she threw her head back into the wall.

“Twinkle, if your cousin could get me pregnant while I’m already pregnant, I promise you he would. He sits up all day and talks about the number of kids he wants, and I’m just trying to get through the first one. You know I haven’t even told my mom or my sister yet that I’m pregnant? They don’t even know that I’m engaged,” Normani said.

I looked at her with wide eyes because I just knew that she would have let that cat from out of the bag by now.

“What? Why? What are you waiting for?” I asked.

“The last time I saw my mom, she was going on and on about how she hopes that I’m protecting myself and a whole bunch of other stuff. I found out I was pregnant just days after having that conversation with her. I’m just trying to ride out the calm because I know once I tell her, she’s going to tell my dad, and that’s when the storm is going to come. Twinkle, I just want a peaceful pregnancy with no drama, and I know that’s why I have been holding out on telling my family.

“I have my first doctor’s appointment on Monday, and I’ll see how far along I am and everything. You know my break starts this week, and Tuesday, my baby is flying us out to Mexico. When we get back, I’m going to my mom’s birthday dinner that she’s been talking about for months, and I’ll probably drop the bomb on them then,” Normani told me.

I smiled, hearing her talk about the Mexico trip.
