Josh arrived home at the usual time and plopped down beside me on the sofa.

“Are you feeling better?” he asked and leaned over to kiss me.

“Yes,” I said and smiled. “I had a cup of peppermint tea and it settled my stomach.”

“That’s good. Was it something you ate for lunch? Leftovers?”

I shook my head and reached into the pocket of my robe.

“It’s this.”

I handed him the pregnancy test, which was positive.

He stared at it, and his jaw fell open. Then he turned to me and the expression in his eyes told me everything I needed to know.

He was ecstatic.

“Oh, Ellie,” he said and pulled me onto his lap, his face buried in my neck. “I’m so happy.” He kissed me tenderly. “Are you happy?”

He looked at me, his blue eyes searching mine out.

“I couldn’t be happier.”

“What about your MA at Columbia?”

I shrugged. “I can do it whenever I want. Columbia isn’t going anywhere.”

“You’re sure? We can hire nannies and babysitters and you’ll have all the support you need if you want to go.”

“I’m fine. I’m happy, Josh. We love each other. We want a family. We’re going to have a family.”

I smiled, tears of happiness in my eyes.

He kissed me and I knew that whatever happened, we would face it together.
