Okay, I had to stop kidding myself. He was charming and gorgeous. Let's face it, a man who looked as good as Luke didn’t have to be too charming. You could shut off your ears for a while, forget he was a cad, and just look at him…

Was it a recent girlfriend he was trying to make jealous? Would she be here? I hadn’t thought to ask about who he was trying to make jealous.

“I forgot. Who are you’re trying to make jealous?”

“Don’t you worry about the why,” he said quickly. “Just look beautiful and sound smart when you talk to my family and any colleagues we meet.”

I nodded and together, we walked out into the throng of people, who looked like all the rich and famous of Manhattan’s business elite. Not that I personally would know what any of them looked like, but if I could imagine it, they would look like these people, polished, rested, rich.

Who was this Lucas Marshall?

I’d never heard of him until this whole business, but that wasn’t saying anything since money and commerce were not my things. More like politics and sociology.

Once upon a time when I was in High School, I had a dream to become an actress and move to Hollywood. I was my drama teacher's star pupil and was hopeful. Then I got mixed up in an intrigue that took me on a one-hundred and eighty degree turn from that and changed my life.

So, even though I had no idea who this bunch of rich people were, I knew how to act.

I’d pretend.

Chapter 6

Luke

I could see why Eric picked her.

She was gorgeous, with long fair hair and perfect skin, blue eyes and a brilliant smile. Her curves made my dick twitch, her waist tiny and her ample breasts and hips were nice and round. Her dress was formal but just a little bit sexy, with the v-neck showing a touch of her very ample bosom. Just perfect. Sexy, beautiful, and yet classy. Smart as well, from our text messages, which I enjoyed far too much.

I stood, taking in a deep breath. It wasn't often I was struck by a woman's looks, but Lexi had it all – at least according to my tastes. She walked up, a confident smile on her face, her full lips very kissable. Right away, my mind went to where I'd like those lips to go and despite my determination not to use any of her unadvertised services, I couldn't help but imagine her on her knees before me, with that delicious mouth wrapped firmly around my cock

After some

introductions and the signing of the NDA, we walked down the stairs and into the fray. I introduced her to my colleagues who were attending the event, and Lexi was gracious, smart and well-spoken. I had to admire the ease with which she met perfect strangers and made polite conversation. When it came time to finally meet my brother-in-law and sister, I had to take in a deep breath and calm myself. I didn't want to ruin the night with a big scene, so I wanted it to go just right. I couldn't wait to see Eric’s face when he saw me with Lexi.

I’d talk about marriage and sacred vows and how being a parent was a huge responsibility. I'd even mention how volatile the business world was and how one could never count on a job for life anymore.

It would make him think.

We walked up to Dana and Eric but if he was surprised when he saw Lexi on my arm, he said and did nothing to show it. Instead, he raised his eyebrows like he was admiring her instead of being totally shocked that she, of all women, was my date for the night. The bastard even wagged his eyebrows at me and smiled, his expression full of lewd suggestion.

Of course, I didn’t think about how Lexi would react when she saw Eric was my brother-in-law. I didn’t get that far, because I was too focused on how Eric would respond. At that moment, I was hit by a sense of guilt that I hadn't thought about how awkward it would be for Lexi. I had nothing against her. She was smart and beautiful. It was too bad she felt she had to sell herself to pay for college. I wasn’t trying to hurt her. It was Eric I wanted to cause pain.

Neither of them did what I expected.

Eric was smiling like a Cheshire Cat and Lexi looked as cool as a cucumber.

"Well, hello," Dana said when we walked up. "Please introduce us to your date, brother."

I could tell by the way Dana was looking at Lexi that she approved of my choice of dates. It made me burn with anger at the thought that her bastard of a husband had actually fucked Lexi. I turned to Lexi and smiled.

"This is Alexandria, or Lexi, for short," I said, emphasizing the Lexi. I gestured to Dana and Eric. "Lexi, this is my sister Dana and her husband, Eric. Dana and Eric have been married for two years and are finally going to become parents for the first time. Isn't that amazing?"

Lexi smiled at my sister. "Hello," she said in a soft voice. "Nice to meet you. Luke has told me so much about you. He's so happy you’re having a baby."

"I know," Dana said and smiled, leaning in closer to Lexi. "He's been so excited about it and I know he'll be a fantastic uncle."

Then Lexi turned to Eric, but she didn't seem to recognize him or at least, she put on a great performance. "You must be very excited. To be a father for the first time. I can't imagine."
