“Changes?” I ask, curiously. I would’ve given my left hand to be a fly on the wall today after Lisa’s sudden departure.

“Just a few, but none that I don’t think will make the world of difference. In fact, I think BPC Advertising is at the start of bigger and better things than ever before.”

“Wow, you sound highly motivated.”

“Oh I am,” Branson says with a wolfish grin as he reaches for me. “Did you get the note?”

I shake my head and act confused. “Note, what note?”

“The note I left on your pillow?” Branson asks with narrowed eyes.

I shake my head again.“Nope, there wasn’t a note. Was it important?”

Branson paces a few times before he stands still in front of me. “I can’t believe you didn’t get the note. I’m tempted to go and search your bed, but maybe this is better.”

“What is better?” I act completely confused.

Branson drags a hand through his hair before he gets down on one knee. My tummy flutters with an army of butterflies as he reaches into his pocket. He pulls out a black velvet ring box as he takes my hand.

“Riley, when you first walked into my office I knew you were going to be trouble. I just didn’t know what kind.”

“Oh, and you do now?” I taunt.

“Could you keep quiet?” he asks with a nervous voice. I smile and nod, I never thought I’d see the day that Branson Carter had a jumpy voice.

“I knew you were going to be trouble, and I was right. Somehow you managed to make a place for yourself in my heart. You take my breath away, Riley. Your mind constantly amazes me and that mouth…I’m still going to fuck that mouth.”

I chuckle at his words, causing him to smile back at me before he opens the box. Inside is a ring with a tear-shaped topaz stone. Diamonds surround the large rock, glittering in the overhead light.

“Branson,” I say, suddenly short of breath.

“I love you, Riley, but I don’t want to be your boyfriend. I know I’ll never feel about another woman the way I feel about you. I want to build a life with you. Will you marry me?”

I gasp at the words I never thought I’d hear coming from Branson Carter. Nodding frantically, I manage to get my answer out. “Yes!”

He flashes a relieved smile and engulfs me in a hug. Pulling back slightly, he reaches for my hand, and I shriek as Branson slips the ring onto my left finger. It’s the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen.

Riley

The following morning I arrive to work hand in hand with Branson. There’s no more hiding our relationship, because it’s official. I’m going to marry the man of my dreams…and my boss.

Branson stops the elevator on the 30th floor and asks me to join him for a moment. I’m confused since this is the last place I want to be. I’m sure everyone thinks Lisa was sacked because of me. I grasp Branson’s hand tightly as we step off the elevator. The sudden roar of applause shocks me. My eyes go wide as I stop mid-step. I turn to Branson in confusion. “What’s going on?”

Branson laughs and hugs me before he waves for everyone to stop clapping. “Yesterday I explained to the Creative Department how unfairly you have been treated since your first day. I’ve told them about the amazing designs you made, contracts you saved, and informed them of Lisa’s sudden resignation.”

“Okay?” I ask, still not following. Although I did pick up that he didn’t tell them that he had fired Lisa because she's a psycho bitch.

“I gave them the freedom to choose their own new Creative Director,” Branson says with a smug smile.

Tammy shrieks on the other side of the room, jumping up and down with excitement. I smile at her warmly. She deserves it. She’s been here the longest.

“They chose you.” I hear Branson’s words beside me, but they don’t make sense.

“What?” I ask, completely baffled.

“Riley, they want you to be their new Creative Director. They feel that Lisa dampened their creativity by being too straight-laced with her designs. They want you to lead them.”
