“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“The dude you were suckin’ off in the parking lot. Is he your pimp?”

“Obviously not,” Serena replied, realizing then why she had a sudden problem. These women were working girls and they obviously thought she had somehow moved in on their territory.

“Are you disrespecting me?” The redhead closed the rest of the distance between them. “Answer me, bitch!”

“It’s Miss Bitch to you,” Serena said, pushing her hand down in her bag and making sure she secured a good grip on her pepper spray. “And so you know, I’m not a working girl. I wasn’t with my john or my pimp. Money didn’t change hands.”

“Serena!” Draegan’s voice rang out in the near distance.

“Coming!” She glared at one girl and then another. “Listen, I’m here on a first date. I just want to have a nice time and go home. I don’t want to get paid and I’m not here to work your crowd.”

“First date?” The redhead threw her head back and laughed. “That was some impression you made if you were on a first date, lady.”

“We’ve known one another for a while,” she said, wondering why she even bothered explaining herself to a couple of whores.

Serena had no respect for whores because they’d had no respect for her. When women like these two had worked for her other half, she’d dealt with daily ridicule and snide remarks. Most of the time, her loser ex-husband had kept one or two of them in the guest bedrooms. Sometimes they joined him in their former bed.

“I don’t want any trouble.”

“You heard the lady.” Draegan stepped right inside the restroom and glared at the two women who were trying to run her out of the club. “Scram.”

The girls sneered, made a few snide remarks, and quickly left the facilities. Draegan held out his hand. “Shall we?”

“I thought you were getting drinks.”

“I did,” he said, wrapping his hand around hers. “Unfortunately, I bumped into someone who wants to see you.”

“Who?”

Before they made it to the back of the club, Draegan pushed her down a dimly lit hallway. The performing band’s equipment cases were scattered everywhere, but Draegan didn’t seem to notice.

He twirled her around and her back landed against the wall. At the same time, he planted his palms on either side of her head.

“What are you doing?” He’d been acting weird. First, he’d rushed into a ladies-only restroom—thank goodness for small miracles—and now he had her pinned up against the wall, after telling her someone wanted to see her.

“What does it look like I’m doing?”

Before she could answer him, he dropped his hand, resting it in the curve of her waist as he dragged her lower half against his. He was hard and clearly excited again. Apparently the blowjob had been the problem. He was horny and looking at her as if he planned to do something about it.

He rubbed against her, brushing his fingers through her hair and pulling her into a hot as hell kiss. “You make me crazy, woman. Damn crazy.”

Serena gave him a slight push. “If I’d known our make-out session in the car would lead to this, I might have asked you to drive me home.” She stood on her tiptoes and pecked his lips. “I’m not really interested in giving the voyeurs a show.”

“Then give me one,” he said, crawling his fingers around her waist and lifting her shirt up. He then dipped them down the back of her skirt and released a ragged breath. “Damn. You’re wearing a thong.”

“Is that a problem?”

Draegan’s eyes looked darker. “It’s…It’s…”

“Okay, now you’re starting to worry me. I know you, Draegan McCall. We’ve been friends a while now, and while you’re a peculiar guy, you’re not this in-awe, lovesick kind of weirdo who looks at a girl who just gave him head and seemingly sees stars. What is going on?”

“Hello, Serena.” A door slammed at the end of the hallway.

/> Serena jerked. Draegan cursed.

“Detective Brice.” Serena had to force herself to look away from Draegan just to acknowledge him.
