He made a noise, a deep, male, possessive sound that had her blood singing. “Jesus, Regan.” He lifted her up, and her legs curled around his midsection, her mouth seeking his because she was starving.

For him.

He set her on the island, and that allowed easier access.

Tongues danced. Fingers explored. Her bra ended up on the floor a few feet from her top, and when his hot mouth closed over her nipple, she sank her hands into his hair, holding him in place. Her head thrown back, body arched in pleasure, she began to grind against him, whimpering with need.

“Wyatt,” she breathed, hands reaching for his jeans.

He pulled back abruptly, chest heaving, face flushed dark with desire, and ran a shaky hand through his hair. He stood back, as far as he could go with her legs still wrapped around him, and the look in his eyes was enough to set the entire place on fire.

She smiled wickedly and reached for him, loving the feel of his hardness through his jeans.

“Hey.” He shook his head and tried to extricate himself from her grip. “I can’t…” Unmistakable regret clouded his words and took a step back. He wanted her. She saw that.

“I don’t understand.” She barely got the words out. Her body was ripe. It was hot and aching, and she was so damn wet for him.

Wyatt shuddered and cupped her cheek. He reached for her, his lips grazing hers in the softest of kisses. “I really did only come to make you breakfast. Trust me, if I could stay and spend the entire fucking day in bed with you, I would.”

He tugged on her until she was forced to look up at him. “And we will. This is so gonna happen. Just not right now.”

“Okay,” she whispered, more confused than ever.

“I have to be somewhere in an hour, and I don’t want to rush this. No way in hell am I gonna do that. I want to take my time and worship every single inch of your body.” He paused. “Rain check?”

“Yes.”

Wyatt dropped a kiss to her swollen lips and rested his forehead against hers. “I promised Patrick an advanced copy of the new NASCAR game, and he’s expecting me.”

Her heart swelled so big and full that she nearly choked on the emotions that ran through her.

“He would love that,” she said softly, angling her head back so she could see Wyatt.

He was quiet for a few moments and when he spoke, she heard the concern and worry in his voice. “He’s a great kid who’s been dealt a real shitty hand. Anything I can do to make him feel better, I will. Brad told me about the tumor and how the chemo and radiation haven’t really done the job. He told me about this new infection and…” Wyatt took a step back and exhaled. “I just want the kid to smile.”

“You’re so not what I thought you were.”

Wyatt held her gaze as he reached for his jacket, which was slung across one of the chairs at the island. “That’s probably a good thing.” He slipped into it and turned toward the door. He opened it and paused, tossing her a wicked grin over his shoulder.

“Nice tattoo.”

And then he was gone.

Regan wrapped her arms around her chest and stared at the door for so long, she began to shiver. Only then realizing she was still half-naked. She glanced down, noticing her track pants had ridden low on her hips. And there on the right side, just below her bikini line, was a small pink Hello Kitty.

She slipped off the counter and pulled her cell phone from her purse. Quickly, she scrolled through her contacts until she found the one she wanted. A soft smile played around her lips as she began to type a message.

The code to the front door is Bella.

She paused, fingers tracing letters on the keyboard and then typed one more sentence before hitting Send.

Use it.

Chapter 13

Wyatt was late for his dad’s birthday dinner. By the time he rolled up to the house on the lake, only a few cars remained in the driveway, and one of them was his brother Hudson’s. He put his truck in Park, wondering why he’d come at all, and sat there for a good five minutes.

Light shone invitingly from inside, yet he felt nothing but cold and an overwhelming sense of sadness that left him weary. Why had he come? He glanced down at the seat beside him as his cell lit up for the tenth time in the last hour.
