“Guess so.” She watched Dana as she worked. “What are they saying? Like what have you heard?”

Dana paused, blowing up as a stray piece of hair swept across her face. “About you and Wyatt, or Carly and Jarret?”

“Oh no.” Carly shook her head and laughed. “This is so not about me. Let’s hear the juicy gossip concerning our very own Doctor Thorne.”

Dana shrugged. “It’s no secret you guys are together. Heck, his truck is like a permanent fixture in your driveway.”

“Huh.” Regan glanced at Carly and raised her eyebrows. “I didn’t know folks kept such a close eye on my place.”

“Not folks in general.” Dana giggled. “Just Mr. Abercrombie. He’s the biggest gossip in town, and in case you’ve forgotten, he lives right across the street from you.”

Right. She’d been busted right from the beginning.

Dana shrugged. “He goes to Coffee Corner every morning and has a standing Friday appointment at Don’s Barbershop. Ever since his wife passed, his greatest pleasure is keeping up with his neighbors and letting everyone in town know exactly what they’re doing.”

“Guess you’ve been keeping him busy,” Carly teased.

“Only because you’re still living on the West Coast.”

“Not for long.”

Wait. What? Regan turned in her seat. “You’re moving back here? To Crystal Lake?”

“I’m thinking about it. I got a job offer a few months ago from a company in the city, but I turned it down. Moving back this way wasn’t on my radar, and I was happy where I am. They contacted me again last week and made it really hard to say no. I’m meeting with them on Monday.”

Regan squealed. “You’re just telling me this now?”

“I wasn’t going to tell you at all until I knew for sure, but yes, it’s a definite possibility.”

“Jarret will be happy to hear that.”

Carly made a face. “I’m not moving across the country for Jarret Cavendish. I’m moving across the country because an opportunity has presented itself.”

Regan leaned toward her. “So you have decided.” If she could have added, Ha! and not sounded like one of the twins, she would have.

“Let me rephrase. I may be moving across the country because of an interesting job opportunity.”

“And the fact that you’ve started up with Jarret has no bearing.”

“No. It’s just a perk.”

Regan chuckled. “A bonus.”

“Yes.”

“Okay then.”

“Enough about Jarret. What’s going on with you and NASCAR?” Carly wasn’t letting go. She asked the girl working on her toes for a few more options (couldn’t decide between Fire Engine Red or Glitzy Ginger) and looked at Regan pointedly.

“Don’t worry about me.” Dana dried her hands and inserted a pair of bright pink earbuds before putting Regan’s foot back in the hot soapy water and reaching for the other. She grabbed a generous scoop of sea scrub and got to work.

“Well?” Carly prompted.

Regan shrugged. “I don’t know. We just sort of fell into this…this thing. I don’t even know what to call it.”

“So the big R isn’t the word you’re looking for?”

Regan looked at her friend questioningly.
