Jarret fiddled with his beer mug. “Everything all right?” he asked, suddenly concerned.

“Yep.” Jarret nodded. “I, ah…wanted to ask you something is all.”

“Okay. But you have to open your mouth and actually speak to get it out.”

“Don’t be an asshole.” Jarret pushed his beer away. “This is important.”

“Then tell me.” He watched his friend closely. The guy was nervous, and that wasn’t like Jarret.

“I need you to block off some time later this summer. Say, July.”

“You need to be a bit more specific than that. There’ll be races in July, so I need dates.”

Jarret cleared his throat, and, shoot, was that sweat on his forehead? What the hell? “We were thinking the twenty-ninth. Maybe.”

“I’ll have a look and see and…” Wait. We? Wyatt was confused. “What the hell is going on, Jarret?”

“I’m off the market.”

“What?”

“I’m off the market.” Jarret’s voice rose, his words coated with a tinge of irritation.

“I know what the hell being off the market means, but what are you telling me exactly?”

A slow grin crept over Jarret’s face, and he shrugged. “I’m getting married.”

Wyatt’s mouth fell open. He honestly didn’t know what to say to that. “Married.”

“Yep.” Jarret nodded. “Hitched. That’s gonna be me.”

“To who?”

Jarret looked at him as if he’d lost his freaking mind. “Are you kidding me? To Carly, for Christ sake. Who else?”

“Carly Davis.”

“You know any other Carly?”

“How the hell did I miss that? I know she’s been around lately, but I had no idea you guys had gotten so damn serious.”

“Hey.” Jarret winked. “When you know, you know. We’re not kids anymore. I don’t need to date someone for years to know if she’s right for me or not. And trust me, that wasn’t the issue.”

“What was?”

“Keeping her interested long enough for her to get it and making sure she knew I was the one.”

Wyatt slapped Jarret on the shoulder. “And how did you manage to get that done before she dumped your ass?”

“I kept her knee-deep in champagne and went downtown every chance I got.”

“You’re a pig.”

Jarret chuckled. “A pig in shit and happy to be there.”

Wyatt pondered his friend’s words for a few moments. “How did you know?”

“Know?”
