“I’m not an animal to just relocate! Did anybody think to ask me? I like you, Hollister, but you’re making it really damn hard right now. And I hate Levi. Fucking prick,” Indi spat.

“He’s a nice guy, Judas. Don’t be so hard on him. He thought he was protecting you. Anyway, now that you know the facts, he won’t have any choice but to let you stay. You duped his plan on the drug thing, and I don’t think that happens to him very often. He’s going to be pissed, but he’ll come around. Anyway, I told him you were my only friend so he couldn’t take you away from me.” He clapped his hands together. “Now, let’s talk about something fun instead of drugs, Levi, or the evil dude he’s trying to take down.”

“Nah, let’s just get drunk. I need to drink until I don’t feel anything.”

“We can do that, too! How about your man? I haven’t seen him around in the last couple of weeks. Please tell me you didn’t fuck things up with that hottie! You can’t see me, but I’m fanning myself right now. H-O-T, he is! I bet he’s wild in bed, too. He has to be.”

Indi rolled his eyes. “As I’ve explained before, he isn’t my boyfriend. He isn’t even a fuck-buddy. He’s a paid escort—that’s it.” Hell, things would be so much easier if that’s all it really was. Wild in bed? Not until our last time, leaving me wanting more but too stubborn to ask for it. “Anyway, he ditched me—ended our business arrangement without looking back.” Indi shrugged like it didn’t matter when he knew damn well it did. “I’ll call the agency and get somebody to replace him. Escorts are a dime a dozen, right?” Just to make himself feel better, Indi added, “And he wasn’t even that good of a fuck.” Not until the last time, of course.

“How do you know he didn’t look back? You’re blind.”

“And that was a fucking mean thing to say,” Indi snapped back, not really mad but unable to stop the wave of helplessness that washed over him.

“Sorry, dude. I didn’t know you were suddenly going to be so sensitive about it. Anyway, my point for my fucking mean remark was that you’re dead wrong about him not looking back. I watched him pace up and down the street, cussing and punching the shit out of his Jeep for over an hour. It was hilarious. Needless to say, that expensive suit that he never ever looks comfortable in didn’t survive his temper tantrum. You must have really pushed his buttons.”

Aww, his old Jeep. As Travis, he’d lied and said he drove a Mercedes. Indi never once thought Clay would ditch his Jeep for a Mercedes, but he’d acted like he believed him—just like he pretended to believe that Clay enjoyed wearing suits. Hell, Indi would have pretended to believe everything just to keep him coming back…which really made Indi a fucking pussy.

Hollister poured himself another shot and turned on the television. He was a sucker for Friends reruns. “I’m going to be honest with you, the Jeep fits how he looks. The suit does not. I picture him as a soldier or biker.”

“What does he look like?” Indi asked, just to torture himself. Had Clay changed his appearance in the two years since Indi had been able to see him? “What color is his hair?” Indi asked quietly, envisioning the version of Clay that was emblazed in his memory.

“Dude! Haven’t you ever asked him? Felt his face like I’ve seen blind people do on the television? No wonder he always looks pissed when he leaves. You won’t let him past level one on the Judas relationship, will you? That’s cold, man.”

“Ha! Trust me, Hollister, that isn’t why he’s pissed when he leaves here. He’s not here begging for a relationship or falling in love with me. There are no happy endings where the two of us are concerned. Now, just tell me what color his fucking hair is!”

“Jeezus, it’s black. Stop yelling at me.”

Of course, it was black. Fake Clay had told Indi blond—surfer boy vibe from Australia. Nice accent. Everything had been a lie. Every. Damn. Thing.

Every touch.

Every conversation.

Every time fake Clay had made Indi laugh.

Every fuck.

Indi couldn’t help but be angry and humiliated that Clay and his old team had thought he would be so easy to trick…that he would be that gullible and useless. Sure, he’d been angry at Clay before, playing the male escort when he was as straight as they came. He’d also felt sorry for him, though. Indi had pitied Clay because he’d obviously been the one to draw the short straw and have to pretend to be the escort. Now? Now, he was simply angry. The team thought he was a fool. Worthless. How easy they’d believed it would be to dupe him since he was blind.
