“Says here her name is Lilah Reyes and she is here temporarily as the new maid.”

“Thank you. She didn't happen to leave an address, did she?” He eyes me a bit, like he thinks I am losing it and it could very well be true. I mean here I am, the Governor and I am chasing a maid. Talk about cliche’

“Sir if I may. If she caused an issue, please let us know and we will handle it.”

“No. She did nothing wrong. Now please answer the question.”

“Sir, I took a copy of her temporary badge and got her pertinent information. Here you go.'' He hands me the paper with her address, name, and date of birth. Gotcha.

“Thank you, Cliff. Carry on.” The paper in my fingers might as well be lit, with the way it is burning through my skin. I need to go to her. Find her. Apologize and demand she come back with me. The gentleman in me knows I need to figure her out, be smart and stealthy, but also to woo her. She is going to be different, and I know it. Hell, I could smell her innocence from the moment I walked into the room which is why I was such an ass. It caught me off guard and I hate to be found unaware. Pulling my phone from my jacket I call William.

“Miss me already.” he chuckles.

“Don’t flatter yourself. I need you to run a name for me. Lilah Reyes.”

“And how much is it you want to know? Is it a precursory glance or are we talking full on dig?”

“I want everything from her kindergarten teacher to present.”

“To what end, Blake?” he’s smart. He knows me more than anyone.

“To the end of an aisle with a priest, a ring and swollen belly. Not necessarily in that order.” If I wasn’t so serious right now, I would full on laugh. The silence on the other end of the phone is comical.

“Is this a joke?” he asks, his voice no longer light and carefree.

“Not in the least, my friend.”

“What the hell. You just left me not even a couple of hours ago. How could you have possibly found someone to marry in such a short time? Did you finally give in to your mother?” I shudder when he says it and share his distaste when he makes a gagging sound after saying it.

“No. She is the new maid, but not for long.”

“Oh boy. The tabloids are going to have fun with this. Are you sure you want to go there?”

“Have it to me before the end of the day.”

“As you wish.” I hang up and spin in my chair looking out the window. Seems the change I have been seeking has found me. Now, I need to find her.

Chapter Five

BLAKE

How the fuck did I not think this through? In my head, I had a plan. I was going to get her today, bring her back to my place, seduce her, impregnate her, and marry her. Case closed. I mean it is simple, right? And I am a man of action. I see what I want, be it a goal or in this case a person and I go for it, all else be damned. So, what was there to consider, right? Wrong. How could I be so wrong?

I spent the past twenty four hours learning all there is to know about her. I know she has seven sisters, her father has passed away and her mother, who owns the cleaning company that has been taking care of this mansion since my election, is now in the hospital fighting cancer. She and her sister apparently have a house in New York where they all live but have come home to take care of their mama and keep her company afloat. My accountants have been instructed to transfer five hundred thousand dollars into their business account and to inform me if anything should come up. I have also been in touch with the hospital and am looking as we speak for any experimental treatments on the market. I know she is a homebody since she doesn’t have much of a presence anywhere and her social media accounts are all about her sister and books. I almost talked myself out of it when I found out she was nineteen years old, almost, but thinking about her laid out on a bed, naked, for someone else, quickly brought me back to the possessive animal I seem to be for her only. Yeah, I considered everything, or so I thought.

What I didn’t take into account was the car ride, my senses filling up with her delicate, yet potent fragrance. The way her legs squirm. The rise and fall of her breasts as she tries to calm herself, all the while not knowing everything about her is enticing and alluring. She is the flower you find by accident in a garden you didn’t plant yourself. She is the rainbow you see in the sky, even after it hasn’t rained. Innocent, supple fertile women like her aren’t single long and if they are, they aren’t innocent at all. I can picture the headlines now. The Governor is an untamed beast in the sack. It's true. I am cool, calm, and collected in the office and in public. I had yet until this moment found a reason to unlock the untamed man in me. Seems she was the key.
